BP Special Visco V 5W-40 (fully synthetic)

Castrol GTD 505 01 5W-40

DEA Ultec Diesel SAE 5W-40

Delphi Prestige Diesel Plus 5W-40 (synthetic-based)

Granville Topaz Diesel 5W-40 (semi-synthetic)

Madit 505 01

Migrol Special S-Plus

Millers XFE-PD SAE 5W-40 (semi-synthetic)

Motul 6100 5W-40

OMV syn com diesel

Q8 Formula Excel 5w40 (fully synthetic)

Shell Helix Diesel Plus VA 5W-40 (semi-synthetic)

hi guys i have a 05 vrs due for its 2nd service ,my local non skoda garage has quoted

so is it just a case of gettin an oil that is 5w 40 fully synthentic regardless of make. im lookin at changin oil at every 5k so im not bothered about make as its not gona be in there long

This is what puzzles me. I used to use Mobil 1 in my high revving cars and can't understand why such an oil is not suitable for the PD engine as it's good stuff.

A decent 5w40 oil is still a decent 5w40 oil.....unsure as to what standards is has to meet to be good enough for the PD.....

Very true but there is a lot more to oil than its weight at a specific temperature.

Its performance over time and pressure etc are all factors.

It needs to meet 505.01 at least.

PD engines have parts in them that run at very high pressures, these are in the region of 300 bar (normal tyre pressure around 2 bar). The oil needs to be specifically formulated to cope with these pressures, hence the particular 505.01 standard.

As above. Its all to do witht he polymors that are able to take the pressure of the pd unit. Normal oils dont have these polymors so are really not up to the job.

Cheers

Guy.
