200MPG on A Full Tank

Featured Replies

I drive like a granny - Well maybe a bit better but never take the car above thee k revs.

I measured my mpg and only got about 220 MPG on a full tank.

My tyres are inflated correctly and I cant think of what would be causing it...

Would driving hard improve my mpg?

What engine is it?

1.4 MPI 2000 model - Not 16 V

220 miles per gallon?

You mean 220 miles per tank?

Thats abot 22 mpg. You have taken the handbrake off haven't you  ?

Seriously though, how long has it been like this?

Also, what kind of journeys are you doing?

My 1.4 16v 2000 is exactly the same round town 200-220miles on a full tank

Drove to London on a run and was looking at 300miles to a full tank.

Just been fully serviced and MOT etc checked tyres etc etc

I was thinking about driving it harder as when I drive around 2 - 2.5k revs I get the stuttering where as if I change at just over 3k it's not to bad and was wondering if the stuttering was affecting the fuel.

how come the miles per tank is so low whats the capacity of the 1.4 fuel tank

My dad had a similar age Fabia (think it was a 75bhp model) and he did drive like a granddad (he is of appropriate age however :D ) and I remember on longer runs through the countryside he would get 55mpg+ and around the doors and in towns he would still get 45+mpg. I think there is something not quite right with your Furby, unless you drive the car in an unusual manner (which I doubt

45 litres iirc

200 miles per tank!? Thats Scooby territory!!

I'm annoyed if I get less than 650!!

Maybe a diagnostics check is in order here? Do you do just stop/start driving?

i get on average about 33mpg in mine and thats pretty much all town driving, i see forty-odd on motorway runs

I was told I should be looking at 35+ round town and just over 40 on a run

The dealership said the only way to find out is to hook it up to a diagnostic machine.

I bought mine 2nd hand the other week from a private garage but with 3 month warranty do you think I should take it back?

My 1.4 8V comfort has the computer and (I don't know how accurate it is) my usual average MPG readouts are approx 36-39MPG in town , mid to late 40s on a run. I wouldn't know how many miles I get to a tank , as I have never filled it up , but I use approx

I can get 230 miles to half a tank in my 8v (mixture of driving fast A roads and town work). On a run I have had 480 to the fuel light. Quite reasonable IMHO.

Have you checked the temp gauge does it sit in the middle when driving, if not and sits to the left could be a thermostat problem.

if not could be the temp sensor telling the ecu that its allways cold and thus running rich, and crap mpg

easy way to check take a plug out see what colour it is white = lean light grey/brownish = just right whilst dark brown/sooty = rich

The temp gauge is half way.

I do mostly town driving but its not all stop start - I was expecting about three hundred + miles a tank

Its been like this for a while but I only just started measuring the mpg

I have a 1.4 8v and was getting about 220 out of a tank, thats all short journeys <5 miles.

I serviced it (plugs, filters, oil) and that improved to about 250. Got myself a vagcom cable and ran the diagnostics and the engine coolant temp sensor was giving an error, I've just replaced it and am awaiting the results. I've also got a new fuel filter but not got round to fitting it yet.

I think with having the vRS and getting 50mpg on every journey is spoiling me a bit.

Can you let us know the results when you get them would be much appreciated.

I am sure it must be something to do with sensors making it run more richly as there is no way my g/f's 2litre Vectra is more economical than my Fabia.

Mine is going back in on Wednesday to be looked at will let you know what happens.
