Hello... Fiesta ST Owner, looking to Purchase Octavia vRS

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I'm Jim from Stone/Stoke-on-Trent in the Midlands.

I've owned my Fiesta ST for 2 years now, very happy and trouble free motoring... just come to the time where I want a bigger car.

I run Fiesta ST Owners Club and Focus ST Owners Club so its quite strange being a member of another club again!!

Congrats to all involved setting Briskoda.net up and keeping it running, you've done a great job :)

I'm very interested in a second hand 2002-2004 Octavia vRS... I've seen quite a few going for the 7000-9000 mark pending mileage, year etc.

My issue is the list of issues that have cropped up on the forums here... obviously problems/faults will always overshadow the number of trouble free owners that will be enjoying their vRS... however, its certainly means I will have a great deal of questions to be asking the seller.

Really do hope I can come across one for the right price / condition. I'm really not sure what else I'm interested in at the moment. I'd love a Focus ST, however, alittle too expensive to run. I've considered a 3 series BMW or maybe something like a VW Passat... but they dont exactly get me excited over the thought of owning one.

If anyone can give me any hints or tips to look out for when buying or to consider as an owner would be very much appreciated.

Regards

Jim

Jim,

if you want a bigger car get the Octavia combi :)

Welcome Jim

They often come up in the for sale section so it might be worth having a look around there.

If you want to stick with an ST, have you considered the Mondeo (in either V6 or ST TDCI guise)? Plenty of bargains to be had now that the new model is out :D

Hi Jim

I too was selling a fiesta and looking at the focus ST 2 months ago, but similar to you, the running costs were the big no no for me. i could have stretched, but no point if couldnt afford to run it.

I have a friend who bought one and he swears he not getting more than 15mpg. he now thinking of selling after just 8 months.

i ended up going for 55 plate mk1 octavia vRS, which is same price as new basic focus.

in general, the reliability was key for me, (the fiesta hadnt had a fault, ever) bear in mind the guys in here are experts, and will generally log on to find cures, so many people wont as have no need.

pound for pound, after extensive search, fun factor, reliability, the Oct vRS won hands down for me. but that just my tuppence worth!! plus it fun driving a car that you know can kick but of many cars, i call it understated smugness!! :-)

Welcome to the forum and good luck with your search for a car

If the funds can stretch to it it may be worth having a look at the MkII vRS as there are some second hand bargains to be had, and without being detremental to the MkI (I still have a soft spot for it, and fast Fords funnily enough!) the refinement, performance, equipment & performance are even better still.

Hi all,

Thanks for your welcome messages.

I have considered a Mondeo ST, however my job means I spend quite alot of time in them at the moment (saying that we have some vRS's too but I dont go in those) I really do like the Mondeo, but I suppose I'm just looking for a change away from Ford for a few years until money permits a brand new motor again.

I have been checking out the for sale section on here, not many in there yet, but I see the Admin have only recently added the section, so I'm sure it will quickly grow.

If I'm lucky I hope to get
