VW Beatle Karmann Convertible

Featured Replies

A friend of mine has one of these, and is thinking of selling it. Just wondering if there are any specialists out there who maybe interested in it.

Basic info, LHD, 1969, Met Blue, with new hood, and some other parts. Basically its an unfinished project, and needs some interior work to complete it. Car is mechanically sound, and drives well. Unsure of MOT situation, but is tax exempt.

Since he had it stolen, and got it back he is starting to lose interest in it because its pre stolen condition was much nearer completion than it is now due to the damage caused to the interior.

He is only thinking of selling it, I guess it will come down to how much a specialist would pay him.

Someone I work with might be interested.

Any pics and idea of a price?

Same as Alex - I could then tempt said colleague with pics :D

He is getting some pics on his digital camera,

pricewise, I dont think he has any idea of its worth.

As above, a colleague may be interested but pics needed.

Shame its not a 1200 ordinary model in Sumtra Green

It depends hugely on condition.

Mint old restored ones are over 10k ' date=' but a part finished project is worth a hell of a lot less.

Early split screen ones in mint conditions would certainly be over 10k, Ive seen an 70s beetle (1300 model) in lime green in good and running condition for sale at

I've got a couple of VW beetle which I need to sell, kinda lost all motivation to restore / MOT them plus I don't seem to get much free time to really get cracking anymore.

The price is really dependent upon condition, and unfortunately for your mate '69 unfinished projects are not exactly in demand. Do you know what type it is 1302 / 1303 (flatscreen / curved screen)?

I'm gonna take a guess between 1 and 2.5k, but pretty difficult without photos / restoration details. Try posting details up on www.volkzone.com/VZi or look in the for sale section for an idea on prices

If its a 69 it should be a torsion bar front with flat screen (ie NOT a Superbeetle 1302-1303-They were introduced in 1972 for the 02 and '73 for the '03) I think the Karmann Kabriolet was always based on the top model bug so it may be a 1600 twin port motor.

Sounds good to me! Forgot that they came in that late

Having said that , a 1303 Karmann Kab looks great when its given the hardcore Euro look treatment , ie met grey , new ish Porsche wheels Type 4 engine with 911 fan conversion , poly bushed, lowered ect ...mmmmm....

mmmm.... euro look! :D

not forgetting that porsche engine that bolts straight in

Remember this thread.

Well my friend has finally taken some picture, and having seen how much these go for in far worse nick on ebay, I rekon it should be worth a few K.

What do you think.

It doesnt look that bad , what's missing from the interior? I think the rear seat and the doorcards (poss rear only-due to the winder handles for the opening rear droplights , and also the profile is different to a regular bug coz of the conversion) will have to come from a Karmann Cabrio , I think the front seats are the same as any other beetle , whatever is needed should be a doddle to get through a breaker (check Volksworld and Ultra VW)

If he is interested in how much it would be worth all complete, here is a 'finished' one for sale in North East , okay its a 1303 , but values are pretty similar for post 68 torsion bar Karmanns and the later '02 and '03s.

Looks okay to me, but tbh its pretty hard to tell from photos, they can make a heap of crap look good ;):D

It hasn't been on the road for 3 odd years so its gonna need the brakes sorting and a bit of 'tune-up', along with fuel lines and such. On the plus side, its looks pretty much rust free but more impotantly the bodywork looks straight. Check to make sure the heater channels (sills inside the car) are good, these can be expensive to replace if you don't have the skills.

As to the price, its too difficult to call, but I'd say in the thousands not hundreds.

He is going to get it out of the garage and get some better photos, hopefully some of the interior this time. When he took those the battery was flat, as the car had not been started for several months and the weather outside wasnt that great.
