Strange but true....

Featured Replies

Recently some "person" nicked my door mirror glass from my Octavia Vrs and it cost me a pretty £35 to replace (that’s a good night out!). After slipping the new one in, the electric toggle switch now operates both the RHS and LHS when adjusting the RHS, but when adjusting the LHS it works fine.

Can anyone offer a fix for this strange but true problem?

Cheers,

Icedink

They all do that

Firstly, welcome to Briskoda!

Secondly, If I knew that a replacement mirror glass was going to cost me €80 (which I had to part with this week thanks to a careless Astra driver), I would have nicked yours!

Thirdly, it is normal for the R setting to adjust both mirrors while the L setting only adjusts the left mirror. I don't understand it myself, but thats the way it is.

When I first found out about 'R' adjusting both and 'L' just adjusting the left I thought it was a daft idea, but I have to say it's very useful!

I could of sworn it only did that after I replaced the glass. Perhaps I've just never paid enough attention.

Here's where I got it from anyhoo.

Car Door Mirrors

Thanks for your prompt replies. I still think it's a daft idea.

I noticed mine after washing my car, I was convinced that water had found its way into somewhere it shouldn't!

Funny that. I only noticed the switch works both mirrors at the same time in one position after I replaced my complete NS Mirror Unit. Turns out its designed like that to save money. The switch really only disconnects the feed to the NS Mirror, instead of having double connections for UP, DOWN, LEFT and RIGHT for independant control.

Time to change NS Door Mirror -

Skoda Rapid - 2 minutes..........Remove 2 screws, exchange mirror, insert screws.

Skoda Octavia - 2 hours..........Unplug and Remove tweeter, Remove Door Handle Surround, Remove Upper Door Card, Cut hands to shreds attempting to unplug connector just out of reach without removing all doorcard, Undo 3 securing bolts, and insulation foam. Refit in reverse order.

Technology eh?

OTOH, with a Rapid, time to re-adjust NS door mirror after it's been knocked out of alignment by some 'sole in a car park 10 minutes a week.

Time to re-adjust Octy NS mirror in same circs 2 mins a week.

Frequency of needing to replace a door mirror (whole mirror, not just glass) - once every 12 years and counting!

I noticed the Gremlin (innovative design aspect) of the mirror today. I got the car a month ago. I only noticed when I was turning the mirror down on the right to reverse along a long kerb.

I was sure they worked independently. :D

Matt

Wholey thead revival lol.........

I just assumed mine was broken haha!...Cheers for clearing that up.

Me too ha ha after a 911 was running wide on a back road corner he hit mt drivers mirror so I put it all back together and got new glass I presumed it was a dodgy wire ha ha sweet I didn't mess up
