handbrake warning switch on estelles?

Featured Replies

My handbrake warning light refuses to go out and I cant find the switch. Its not covered in the manual, does anyone know..............??

Dunno about the Estelle, but on anything else I've worked on that had one, it was beside the lever someplace, and should be obvious when you take the cover off.

On the favorit it is directly under the handbrake. Removing the cover (easy to do on the favorit) made the button easily obvious. Check the handbrake mechanism and see if it hits the button correctly. If it doesn't I assume you have to adjust the handbrake, or may get away with tightening the side it needs to go to a little and loosening the other side a little.

If the handbrake does hit the switch try depressing the button firmly a few times and see what happens.

It was pretty much where I expected!

If adjusting the switch position wrt the lever doesn't work, try spraying an electrical contact cleaner into the switch.

on the estelle it is a general brake warning light not specifically a handbrake light the switch is above the pedal, if you tace a look whilst operating the pedal by hand you will see part of the pedal lifting a vertical bar which operates the switch simply push this up you should hear a click as it relocates

it is there to tell you your brake fluid is low and allowing too much pedal travel so if you havent worked on the brakes recently its probaly telling you that you need to

hope this helps

I'd presumed the owner would know the difference between a h/b warning and a low fluid level one!

many owners assume its a handbrake warning because of the symbol by the light, i guess most cars do have both but unless someone has fitted one themselves this car should only have the fluid light, and it is common to forget to reset the switch after working on the brakes
