Next Years vRS....1.4 Twin Charged 7 speed DSG?

Featured Replies

It hunts like mad. One of the reasons it keeps going back in for a software update.

The owner ? :D

SLK 55 uses 7 sp as do all all the newer 63 AMG cars even the "black" editions.

the odd thing ref the torque is the 420CDI v8 diesels use the 7speeder......

That's easy - to make them less nose-heavy (in a small car), cheaper and easier to drive the SLK55 and the outgoing C55AMG are normally aspirated, so along will all the new AMG63s they are NOT supercharged, so torque is OK.

With ALL new 63 and 65AMGs - though the swept volume is more, without the forced induction they produce less torque than the previous 55AMG models.

420 CDI is rated at EXACTLY 700 NewtonMetres - the maximum rated torque for MY2007 7-speed box (this is actually due to a a relatively recent upgrade in specification of the internals incorporating new friction surfaces for 2007, from the initial 2003-2006 design anyway).

Even the new "Black" series do not exceed this (they are rated at 630 NM).

The "old" 55 AMG, the was rated at 720 to 1,000 NM  - given the relatively low production volume and "hand-made" nature of the AMG models, AMG only wanted to homologate ONE gearbox system for all the M-B models from 1998 - to date.

The new generation "63" series use a normal M-B 7-speeder with software upgrades - AMG do not change any internals (except final drive).

Presumably, as engine outputs invariably rise over time they will have to produce a new 'box based on the 7-speeder or M-Bs next generation 'box.

I don’t see Skoda being allowed to put the 170PD engine in a Fabia, it would stray too far into Octavia VRs/Golf GT/Leon FR territory.

The 1.4TSI might make it...but I’m still a little sceptical tbh as it would slap the face off the Ibiza FR/Polo GTi. I wouldn’t be surprised to see the 1.8 20V T petrol engine in a Fabia VRs though. Maybe VAG will upgrade Ibiza FR/Polo GTi/Fabia VRs engines to 1.4TSI’s in the near future.

If they did release the 170PD and 1.4(170)TSI, could you imagine the job a salesman would have trying to shift the petrol engined car - "Engine choices, we have a 35mpg engine or a 50mpg engine, which would you prefer"???!!

I suppose there will always be the anti petrol and anti diesel crowds that each will appeal to.

i had a 52 plate punto sporting with a 7 speed tiptronic (variomatic) box as c**p as it was... and trust me it was

So who is it that gets

Like the Rover "steptronic" or Honda Jazz auto - the Fiat was equipped with a CVT (continuously variable transmission) with fised overide ratios - ie it jumped to set positions on the "cones" when not in full auto mode.

In theory they could have programmed as many steps as they wanted.

BTW How come VAG are killing off Seat dealerships............i can't find any in Mersyside????

Mike

I doubt its VAG killing them off, more than likely poor customer service is leading to lack of work and closure. Happening everywhere these days. Stems from a lot of the trianed staff leaving for independants where the money is better and less bullsh!t.

Just checked, I was looking at a Seat Leon last time I changed, thank god I didn't in the end! My 'local' dealer is now in either Crewe or Warrington!

I've got a choice of two Skoda dealer sites (one franchise) on the Wirral with another (maybe two?) in Liverpool.

Yes, its Insane when you think about the catchment area by placing one in Liverpool!

Seat MUST be losing heaps of trade!

I read about Fabia RS today in a CZ forum. 1.4 TSI 170 hp. Also Octavia R was named with the same 1.4. I don

Well Spotted , I was suspicious as well. Although the number plate is different.

Good Job whoever did the photoshop, adding the deeper spoiler, and putting the air scoop into the brakes, and the deeper centre intake with the bar across/

It does show the potental.

Technically, every 6 cylinder and upwards MB, except varients which produce more than 700 NM (as the gearbox is not strong enough for greater torque - in which case they revert to AMG modified 5-speeders)
