TDI (110bhp) waterpump - anyone had fail ?

Featured Replies

HI has anyone had or heard of octy 110 tdi (ASV) waterpumps failing ?? I take it they are the dreaded plastic impellor type ??

I'm having my belt etc changed next week and dont know if I should have another genuine part fitted or get an aftermarket one - but I read on here that GSF no longer do metal impellor pumps ??

thanks:)

IIRC, it's often recommended to change the water pump when you do a cambelt change, so that may be an indication that they are prone to failure over time :(

Not sure about plastic / metal impellors though so can't advise on that, sorry :(

I don't know specifically about the 110, but a mate had the impeller on his 90 fail a couple of months back. Said mate's garage now thinks he knows a psychic, since I fingered the exact cause of his overheating problem from 500 miles away.

As for the why of changing both together, you have to do most of the same dismantling for the water pump replacement as for the cambelt, so changing them both together saves time and money. Hence, when there are known issues with the plastic impeller pumps...

To be safe i would have the metal impeller water pump installed.

Not heard of problems on the TDI.

This may be due to lower revs.

I would definitely change it since IIRC using genuine parts it added

Not heard of problems on the TDI

Yes you have; check my earlier post in this thread. I'll give you that it's rarer though, probably because the diesels run several degrees cooler.
