Custom Code remap

Featured Replies

Any experiences with custom code remaps (especialy those done by Badger5 Ltd in Gloucestershire) or Forge generic map?

Had a little look with the search function but could not get much info on custom code.

Anyone on here recomend them, did you have a generic or custom map and do you have any figures.

Mk.1 Octy VRS owners preferably.

Regards

Jon

No experince of the badger's maps. the stage one file is ok, I personally had a bad stage two and would not go for it again. Others have had different experinces.

If they are close to you and you trust them (gut and research) then go for it. If it's a fairly standard car setup then for the mk1 most of the maps yield similar results in the real world.

Rich from Forge knows his stuff to as do many of the others. Check out the partners page, most offer maps and technical work and support the site as well :)

Yeah, want to make sure the delivery is smooth - don't want any boost spikes etc..

The maps tend to be smooth and progressive. It might be worth having it done at GTI International as JBS usually offer some discount.

Wanted to get it done at Badger5 as its only 50 miles from my house and i won't be getting it done for a month or 2 yet. Do you have a custom code map sabredylan?

I have mate, but its a stage 3 Gt3071 map. With stage 2 and 3 maps, you can can have the maps as you want. ie aggressive or smooth.

I think Bill will upload the same CC file to your car as JBS. Stage 1 maps are very similar, but CC maps tend to lean towards smooth power with less over boost.

Is there a lot of torque in the stage 1 map then? The figures on their website look good but there's no RR plot to show when the power is delivered. Anyone else with a stage 1 got any feedback?

Just been un uk-mkivs.net and there are quite a few people running custom code remaps, why so many more than Briskoda?

They seen very good though by all accounts. Think it has made my mind up for me. I have sent a few queries to Badger5 Ltd so am awaiting for a responce next week.

For anyone who wants a remap do some research on them - Seem to be getting a v.good reputation.

As per always there have been mixed experiences with different tuners, and I believe some on this site have had some bad stuff happen with JBS, not particularly with custom code as such, but still, or have (had) issues with the way it was promoted, etc etc.

I had a custom code map on my Fabia before this one, and it was very much progressive, it was the stage 1 generic one, and it was RRed with my hardware (i.e. hybrid stage 2 turbo, Forge FMIC) which was NOT what the map was tuned for (it was for std hardware), It RRed at 177bhp with that, which was pretty much at the higher end of what I expected.

Your car/engine will be quite different. I'm quite sure Bill must be pretty handy with the tuning ;) and his car seems very fast :D

Yeah, bit more research - wouldn't mind havin a chat to Bill when i see him online next too. The map sounds good and is supposed to feel OEM - which is also good!

(Dont want to end up in the back seat every time i put my foot down.lol)

I've had custom code Phase 1,2 and 3. Unfortunately I don't have a plot to hand for the phase 1 but have attached a plot for phase 2.

I can highly recommend Bill he's a really nice and knows how to look after customers, I didn't get my map from him but have dealt with him for braking products. Have a look for him on SCN where he's well respected.

15252.attach

you need a tuner that is miles and miles away, Impossible performance or Jabba sport to name two that are a decent distance from you, Why? have it done then drive home 150+ miles and you'll see.

How did stage 1 feel Eddy? Did the car have enough urgency but remain a smooth drive?

It was very smooth that's the thing I noticed most about it. I changed to CC from Revo and was very impressed.

Would I benefit more from a stage 2 even though i don't plan to do any more mods (can't cope with the insurance)

Is istage 1 a lot quicker than standard then?

Well the stage 1 Custom-Code provided map was a very decent power based on my map. Thing is mine is a turbodiesel, I have NO experience with the CC petrol maps.

A custom mapping (by any of the tuners) might be better as it gives you what YOU want, which could be clutch-safe, or max power, or somewhere in between ;)

If you're only mod is the airbox I'd stick with phase 1 and use some of the money saved for an uprated panel filter (if you don't have one already) and a decent DV. Any remap will make the car considerably faster than standard, you won't be dissapointed.

Cheers EddyH, plans for the car are Green panel filter, Forge 007 DV engine mount bushes & rear arb so didnt see the point getting a custom map just for this.

Cant wait to get it mapped now - depending on the insurance quote.lol.

I have a CC map phase 1 from JBS and IMHO it's well worth doing. JBS were great and I've had no problems since (good job really as I brought the car to New Zealand with me!)

As Eddy says, very smooth, but sooo much faster. Do it! You'll have a silly grin on your face for months!

I've heard custom code has problems in that it completely wipes original ECU parameters including saftey ones so if something goes wrong with engine may be no warning light or limp mode engaged.

I have a custom code and have been in limp mode since it was done, So with my limited knoledge I would say thats not true.

No, you heard wrong.

Your sig says you have an Impossible performance remap. Impossible performance aren't a Custom Code dealer. Just to clear it up Custom Code is a brand of remap not a term meaning a custom remap from any tuner.

Eddy your quite correct a ph1 is the way to go! There's no point in having a ph2 if your running a standard cat/system anyway as it will just fault code (if its running high boost)

Custom code can do some linear maps though so maybe a lean ph2 would be possible a ph 1 with no other mods you would be looking at around 210bhp FYI..................

He must be confused... :D

Have you told whoever did the remap that you are in Limp mode. I feel sure that JBS or IP would like to put things right if they are at fault. If it was in limp mode since it was done why did you drive away with like it, i'm a bit
