1.2 6valve or 1.2 12valve Engine Option

Featured Replies

Has anyone test driven both of these engine derivatives or is there someone that can explain the difference in engine characteristics between the two?

Would like to know if the

The 12v has a bit more bhp and better acceleration characteristics, speaking from my own experiences with a 12v 1.2 MkI Fabia Although have read road test reports thats there was not much difference in performance between the 6v and 12v. Personally choose the 12v as felt it could give better performance as the Fabia is quite a solid car. The 1k premium does sound quite a lot though for the extra valves, but would guess the extra peformance comes at a premium

If I was to have a Fabia again - I would look at the 1.4 80bhp diesel version next as this has a low VED band .

Is there any difference in spec with them Seve?

That's what I was thinking as in the mk1 the 6valve classic had a tape as opposed to a cd in the 12v.

Just looked at the brochure there dosn't seem to be any differenc in spec.

Thought the price difference was only

I asked the same 6v vs 12v question of the dealer. ... his take was that the 6v and 12v are practically the same around town but you notice the difference on the motorway. If you are going for a Fab 2 then you only get the 12v option.

Deag..

I think both of these engines perform better than Skoda claim, Autoexpress tested the 6v one at 14.8s 0-60 the other week when the claimed is 16.5.

As for relative performance between the 6v/12v, Skoda claimed is:

0-62: 16.5/14.9

35-62 in 4th: 13.5/13.1

35-62 in 5th: 18.5/17.3

50-75 in 4th: 17.0/15.6

50-75 in 5th: 21.8/19.2

Top Speed: 96/101

Fuel economy is all but identical and C02 exactly the same.

As for the 1.4TDI you'd have to do a serious amount of miles to make it worth it in my opinion as it costs

6v only available on the 1 but I'm asking the question on behalf of my neighbours who have expressed an interest in one but want to try the 6v before comitting to buy (they've tried the 12v).

I thought perhaps you were about to become a 2 Skoda family Steve.

Would like to get SWMBO into one but she's not interested.

Anyway, back on topic.................;)

I used to get the 12v as a courtsey car from Winch Mo Co....deceptively "quick" for it's engine size. Cruised happily at 80mph on M-Way.

Haven't driven the 6v but I would say if it's going to be used on the M-Way then go for the 12v....will more than likely be more relaxed to drive.

6v will be fine if used exclusively around town.

VAG will soon have a new 1.2 R4. 77kW 180Nm. TFSI or TSI.
