Got myself a fabia! Help?!

Featured Replies

Im slightly discouraged with my shinny new vrs not being deemed a type r beater! :(

I can see where you're coming from - the Type R engine on the low power cam only churns out about 130bhp, and with considerably less torque than in the vRS. So even a standard Fabia vRS ought to be faster than a Type R in the time until the Type R reaches 6000rpm or wherever it is the cams change over. Once the Type R gets there though, it's "Goodnight Vienna" for the vRS!

A lot of it has to do with the fact that the VTEC engine can rev far higher than the PD one, which means fewer gear changes whilst accelerating. So for 0-60 for example, the Type R will get there in second gear easily, but you'll need to be in third in the vRS. Might not sound like much, but you'll be down by a second or so just from that. And the handling of the two is just worlds apart, I'm afraid...

A fully done-over Fabia vRS ought to be up there with a Type R, but you'd be looking at some serious

anything else ive missed??

A remap!!!!!!!!!

I'd recommend dampers too, but don't waste your money on the upper front strut brace, imvho. Might also want to consider the 312mm brake upgrade with some decent discs and pads.

Also worth investing in some decent rubber and some driver training (as the driver tends to be the weakest link!)

Chris

I secong the fact that the strut brace is a waste of money, looks good though. But how often do you open the bonnet for a good view?

A real test of up hill struggle in any car is Hardknott pass near me (do a search on you tube or google video) If you can get up that without swearing then you've done well! I took a mate up there in his car and not even half way up he refused to drive any further. When you get to the top its littered with broken down, overheating cars! But the furby just passes them by and makes its way down the otherside!

I have been up there but thanfully I wasn't driving it's a bit of a beast.

I always refuse to drive when we go walking in the lakes if there are any big hills I daren't even try my MPI up there.

My mate wants took his punto 1.2 up Kirkstone pass and his didn't like hills as it was 1st gear all the way at one point.

You must live fairly close to me Kebaros somewhere over the pond that is Morecambe Bay.

Yeah its a nightmare, I think the first time i went up I had nightmares about it! lol

In good weather if you sit at the top you always see some nutter/fit person biking it to the top! I always think how scary it is going down the otherside in a car but on a bike it must be 10 times worse.

At least on top of Kirkstone there is a pub to refuel haha, I might be up that way this weekend if it stays nice, maybe do a bit of walking!

I was down in Morcambe a few months ago, I came to see Frontierland! I was a bit sad at seeing it all now........

I live in Cumbria, just outside of Cockermouth (yes it really is called that!)

Not to far then just up road and is that where the brewery is? wouldn't mind doing a trip to that one day.

That pub is nice on Kirkstone we went for a walk up the hill directly opposite it but walked up from Ambleside and the pub charges nice prices been in the middle of nowhere.

Those cyclists in the lakes are mental god knows how they get up the hills in the 1st place.

Frontierland no longer (my mum lives just round the corner) just one big pile of rubble and its been like that for years now and noone will take the responsibility to clean it up. Hopefully there starting soon and making some kind of retail outlet.

anyway back to cars
