Hello fellow Skoda owners!!

I am a new member of this site and own a standard red Octavia vRS (04 plate). I've had it since September and it's my favourite car yet having previously owned a bog standard Mk4 Golf, Polo GTI, Mk4 Golf GTTDi 130 and a Honda Accord.

One thing is really frustrating me though, my rear windscreen wiper seems to have a mind of it's own and comes on by itself even when the switch is in the off position. This becomes really irritating on a dry day as it squeaks constantly!!

Anyone else encountered this problem and are there any solutions?? My local Skoda garage are stumped!!

That's a strange problem to have!

How often does it happen? Is it permanently on delay or does it just wipe randomly?

It's totally random although it does tend to happen on dry days.

Have you heard of anyone else having the same problem?

I was thinking of disabling it but not sure how to.....

You could probably pull the fuse, assuming nothing else uses the same one, but if it was me I'd want to find the source in case there could be related issues.

Hmmm!! Thought about the fuse, unfortunately the car is no longer under warranty. It's been in 4 times to get fixed but with no joy.....

Hmm, welcome to my world!!

I've had this problem on and off since I got my car last august.

It's been into the dealers several times and had the motor, stalk and relay all replaced without ever curing the problem or the dealer actually witnessing it themselves .

It's currently on a behaving streak at the moment but after the last failed attempt at repair when it happened again I got the boot trim off and had a poke about in there myself.

If it's the same as mine then it'll be an earth fault somewhere so I'd advise you to thoroughly check all the plugs in the line from the motor back to the loom by the left hand rear seats. I found nothing obvious apart from some rather strange looking sharp material underneath one part of the loom (seemed to be some sort of sealant, wasn't conductive but I cleaned it up anyway) and the foam cover by the motor was moved away from the plug so I repositioned that too.

I have started threads in here about this problem and my progress etc but they haven't had much response as it appears that we are in the unlucky minority with this particular problem!

I think Matt's probably on the right lines, but intermittent electrical faults are always a right burglar to track down unless you get lucky.

Thanks for that info... my car has also had all the parts replaced -twice in fact but it made the problem worse or maybe it just seems that way!!

I'll have a look at your previous threads and see if I can fix it. It's at least good to know someone else has the same irritating problem and I'm not going completely mad!!

Just had a look at your threads...... seems a bit technical for me but I'm gonna take the trim off n see if I can spot any obvious faults. It's been behaving itself for 2 whole days now!! As you said it's funny how a small fault like this can spoil your enjoyment of an otherwise excellent car.....

Unfortunately no it's not my work vehicle. I get to drive a Focus 1.8Td. I have no such luck!!!

But yes, you're on the right lines...... just try n keep it to yourself! It doesn't make me a bad person.....I hope!!

Actually the locals are pretty good on the whole near me - had to laugh the other day when we got held up leaving our close by a pickup truck and a police car, I was a bit peeved until the officer came up to explain that the truck was just loading a bike on that'd been riding round the estate with no number plate (don't think it was a road bike anyway!). Completely made my day

Same problem, but also blows front washer circuit fuse. Been back to dealer 5 times with no solution. (Had it for two weeks on one visit). Only "fix" is to pull the rear wiper motor fuse - stops the irritating flap-flap from the back, but then can,t wash front sreen or clear the back screen in inclement weather. Vehicle is new (30 Mar). Has to be a dead earth short somehere, but where?? Now rejecting the vehicle via the lease company.

How about pulling the rear wiper power connection rather than the fuse? IME, as long as the rear screen is properly wet it's better to leave the wiper off (and yes I do have an estate).
