Brake Fluid - help needed please

Featured Replies

New Octavia II 2.0 FSI Estate. 900 miles.

Opened the hood today to clean the bottom of the screen

The Brake fluid bottle looked like this

OOOPS!

Another shot shows fluid in the rectangular area of the tank and I have no warning light

Do I have a big problem, a small problem, or no problem at all (apart from being vague about under-bonnet happenings)?

Thanks in advance.

Mike

It's difficilt to tell from the pictures but it does like as though it's above the minimum level to me, in which case it should be ok.

Thanks again Stu.

Sorry to waste your time and bandwidth guys.

I have moved the car and looked carefully in a different light.

Removed the lid briefly as well.

There is fluid nearly up to the max level, it is hardly coloured at all and I didn't see it the first time.

Sorry again - I feel foolish :o:thumbdwn:

Hint - This is why I always check fluid levels (well except on the old Xantia) by taking the covers off, rather than looking through transluscent plastic.

You'd have thought that in this day and age, they could have found a fluid with a more vivid colour!

Dont feel foolish, I have a hell of a job sometimes checking the level.

Top tip

Shine a torch through the side of the reservoir, this usually lights it up and you can see the level.

I must admit I tend to wave a torch at it as well, on the Fabia I find it easier to remove the boost pipe.

Isn't is stupid when you have to remove parts just to check a simple consumerable level.

This is a really basic requirement, surely!

Next you'll be suggesting that it should be possible to change front bulbs:-

1) In the dark

2) From inside the enginebay

3) Without the use of tools!

;)

It's a bit like the PAS fluid tank being under the battery on the Fabia.

Far from the automobile industry actually progressing over the last twenty five years I have been driving, I think that the reverse is the case.

I remember checking most consumerable things myself on the first car I had - my beloved morris traveller. Although I don't think that it had PAS (joke!)
