EGR Valve Cleaning?

Featured Replies

Just got my Fabia 1.4 16v [AUB] back from the dealers after a dianosis log. It came up with two faults:

16502 Sender for coolant temp [signal too high]

16786 Exhaust gas recirculation [flow too high]

I intended to change both the items fro new. The temp switch is around

would like to know more about this valve myself, seeing as it is constantly ****ing oil on my car...

I wouldn't have thought a dirty / knackered EGR valve would cause the flow to be too high (low, perhaps!) I do know, however, that the settings for the EGR can be altered using VAG-COM, as it's part of the unofficial fix for stuttering Fabia vRSes. Sounds to me as though it needs tinkering with electronically rather than being cleaned / replaced...

Coolant temp sensor is easy-peasy, BTW!

Had the same error code a while ago, but the egr valve was fine, so a kind genius on this forum suggested cleaning out throttle body pipe.

The top of the throttle body is held on by 4 allen keys, take the top off and there is a "tube" sticking up in the middle (sorry for the non technical description).

There is a small hole near the top of the tube that was blocked with carbon. Cleaned the hole out, refitted the cover, cleared the code and it has never returned! If you disconnect the throttle cam I think you need to recalibrate it with VAG com, but you dont have to if you just want to unblock the pipe.
