anyone?

If you are keeping the factory H/U and want to use amps, you can do it a few ways.

The most expensive way is to use something like a JL Audio Cleansweep. This is a box of tricks that apparently analyses the signal coming from the H/U and modifies it to give a nice linear frequency output.

However these are not cheap.

Personally I do it in my current car (Mazda6) by using a line out connector (LOC). This connects up to the speaker wires and gives line level outputs that a amp requires.

Some of the best ones are from Navone engineering (iirc) in the USA. I have one of theirs and it works well.

If you are going to use a LOC, then position it as far from the head unit as possible to avoid interferance.

Or you could use an amp that has speaker level inputs and use the speaker wires to feed your amp.

One thing to remember, is that in general if you are connecting an amp or a LOC to your speaker wires, make sure you disconnect the wire from the speaker on the input side.

For the best sound quality (imo) you should look into buying component speakers for the front (seperate woofers and tweeters) and a subwoofer for the boot.

You'll need amps with variable crossovers to make sure the relavent speaker only gets the frequencies it can handle, but most amps have this nowadays.

The front speakers mounting is very important. Make sure they are located solidly and if possible make a MDF baffle for the woofer to mount onto. Then use some sound deadener like Dynamat extreme to give the baffle a more inert and dead sounding knock when tapped.

All in all it is quite a complex task to do properly, but car audio is 80% instalation, 20% equipment.

HTH.

why would you want to keep the skoda head unit? A nice head unit will do much more for you than hooking up amps to your skoda head unit. I'd say bare minimum is new head unit, replace oem speakers with up rated ones and a small active sub in the boot. you could just about get it all for

The standard skoda headunit (symphony) has everything you need to get a line out to drive a subwoofer, all you need is the appropriate cable. Bluespot had the item on their website but I cant find it in the redesigned site.

Or you could buy a decent HU with a x-over built in which will allow you to cut out the bass from the standard speakers, then wire up a sub which will be controlled by said HU. See the standard speakers don't do bass very well at all so just lose it and make it up with a nice sub. And i you feel like it at a later date you can upgrade your speakers

I did exactly this when I had a previous generation Passat.

Sounded Ok through the front speakers with an amped sub in the boot.

Not too loud, but sq was good enough.

However, there is not substitute for replacing the whole lot with aftermarket equipment.

A head unit, front components, sub and amp (s) is all you need to get a sound that blows away any standard system imo.
