Door glass, drive broken

Featured Replies

I got in the car yesterday and pressed the switch to lower my window. There was a whirring noise the glass stayed still then slowly disappeared into the door and wouldn't rise.

I took the trim off and it appears that the fixing for the wire that operates the window has broken. This is a plastic (Nylon?) part attached to the edge of the glass.

My questions are:

1/ Is this repairable?

2/ Yes. Will I be able to repair it or is it a garage job?

3/ No. Am I looking at a new glass?

4/ If I can do it myself and if someone has already done it, could they tell me of any problems I might encounter.

Thank you,

Denis

Thanks for your replies.

I did do a search after I'd posted! It does appear to be a bit of a weak spot. Is it intentional, ie to sell more spares? One would like to think not; perhaps it would be more charitable to call it a design flaw!

I know that it's the attachment to the glass that has broken. I saw mention of a metal clip but not for the Octavia. Is this still the case? Has anyone attempted a repair rather than a complete replacement?

Cheers.

I replaced the door regulator (

hi skodaiw

just did my regulator last week cost

Sounds very familiar!!!

I've only had my Octy since Sept last year and I've already had both driver and front passenger windows disappear!!

It doesn't seem to be Skoda exclusive though... I had 2 Golf Mk4's and a Polo which done the exact same so it's a VAG thang....!!

Fortunately (for me) none of them occured outwith warranty so I don't know how much it would be to have a dealer repair for you.

Good luck fitting it - let us know how you get on!

Cheers

hi elvis

according to car parts warehouse it is a common fault on the octy which is why they hold the part

oh by the way to anybody reading this if you are on the warehouse website looking for a part and it is not listed give them a call as the dont list all there stock on the website

I forgot about looking at Car Parts Warehouse.

The Skoda part came with the screws. Having the key-hole slots does help, good piece of engineering, which can't be said for the Nylon sliders/clips!

Denis

This is a common problem with the older mkiv golfs as well. Think the newer models got uprated regulators from about 03 year onwards.
