I have heard about this. One drawback I have read is that it can eat your fuel pipes (eats rubber) which I guess is something you'd only find out had happened after a while of using it.

Stuff like that easily puts me off adding acetone to the tank :)

Not true - for starters, most fuel lines are made of plastic (polypropylene or similar), and either way petrol (or diesel) is FAR MORE destructive to either polypro or natural rubber than acetone AFAIK.

So I reckon the 'eats fuel lines' thing is a myth spread to stop people trying it. It may well be done with the best of intentions safety-wise (I wouldn't try it unless I absolutely knew what I was doing), but OTOH it could just be a revenue-protecting measure by fuel additive manufacturers and/or government... Sounds to me like the claim by VAG that you should only use their 'special' screenwash, as other stuff will rot the pipes - I've used bog-standard stuff for years, with no sign of any leaks!

Just my 2ps...

i'd be more worried about it damaging the seals in the fuel injectors....

far better off sticking a bottle of whisky in the tank instead:P
