would love a yellow one! can i get skoda to do the cambelt?

My PD100 Fabia was a great car, I would definately consider one in your position (or mine now if it had a larger boot). Comfortable and economical, plus that engine is pretty nippy as standard and can be taken up to the 150bhp mark without too much hassle. I never had a problem with brake fade either, despite fabia vRS owners suffering that fate . . . and I wouldn't describe my driving style as "conservative". ;)

150bhp? is that just with a remap?! dont get me into tuning ideas.... the idea is to get something more economical! i did drive it and was nice! i just had to re arrange my driving style to stop the jerky gearchanges!

.... how she did 66k from 2004 i have no idea!
My vRS is July '04 and I've done 61K in it. Running better now than ever before.

she beat you then:P yeah, ill see how the paper work goes 1st... but fingers crossed it will happen:) if 6 quid can get 120 miles estimated on the trip computer compared to my 55 miles on my 2.0! ill be saving tons! whats the servicing costs like on a tdi?

Must .... resist ... commenting!

PD oil is expensive which will push the price of the service up (although if you source your own you might get a better rate). Cambelt should have been done at 60k I think. If it hasn't been done, you're due a very big service (over 400 quid) to get it done, and even more if you get the water pump done at the same time. Track rod end on one side wore on mine at a little less than that mileage too - apparently a common problem and about 100 quid for the part and an hour's labour (allegedly). You'll want to make sure they do the tracking on a machine too.

Aside from that, check all the tyres are wearing evenly and all the gadgets are working (especially the seat heater and air con!).....

Btw, don't forget that while it may be cheaper to run, you have to factor in the cost to change in your calculations too to balance out how much better off you may be..... :D

Chris

66k is nothing, my 03 plate is almost at 90k still feels almost new

But it depends how much you're spending to sell the 2.0 and buy the 1.9 TDI ;) If you get say 30mpg now, and 50mpg with a diesel ... how many miles will you need to do in the diesel before you start being better off? :D Chris

A very fair point ! :)

Then again, you also have to take into account that you should (all being well) get a better price for your diesel over the 2L when you eventually come to sell it.

i fancy a new car too! but i do need a diesel! just fed up of visiting the pumps when 10quid gets me one journey!

Remember to check the rear footwells for water ingress and if they are at all damp get the door seals done. A search on here will reveal further details. My 1.9 Tdi gets 56mpg ish. Is a grand wee car although mine has the fairly poor cassette player fitted. Even so,

Are you sure the cambelt wasn't done at 60k already? If so, that's a weight off your mind. Won't need looking at again until 120k. :)
