3.5mm female jack

Featured Replies

Hello all

Ive had a search around and cant find an answer for this??

I have a fabia VRS with a symphony single CD player. I want to add a female 3.5mm jack somewhere discrete (like in the back of the cubby under the HU?) so that I can plug in any player I like, not just ipods!

It seems that this is standard fit on some octy/fabia models?

Does anyone know if its possible to do? and if so, how ??

You can buy a lead that will give you a 2 phono input via the Mini ISO connector, often seen on ebay. You could mod that to have a jack on it.

Or wouldn't an audio mute used for car kits be of any use?

Doubt it tbh - you'd also need a control signal to mute the radio first.

Ah ok. Assumed they worked on seeing any signal in the lead circuitry to kill/swap the signal with a kind of relay - input stops, the radio kicks back in.

You can get a cable which plugs into the OEM head unit where a CD changer would plug into.

This effectively gives you a 3.5mm jack into what would be the CD changer "input". However, IIRC, you'd also need to either program the head unit or have some more gubbins to fool the head unit into thinking it has a cd changer. If you don't, you'll never have the CD changer source "selectable".

if you press the cd button so many times mine goes to aux in. does that mean i can get a lead to plug into the back of the stereo?

Thanks for the comments, it at least gives me something to aim at :)

SMStext, how many times do you have to push it??

To avoid confusion I think smstext is reffering to a Stream headunit in an Octavia - Yours may be different.

bum :(

seems like it might be best to change the headunit?

Just got to get it past the missus

yes mine is a stream. vrs stu, would i be correct that i could buy a lead to plug in the back to aux in? not got the guts to do it myself at moment, but would consider it at a later date.

with reference to the button, press cd will take you to cd in the unit, again to the multi disc and again will take you to aux in.

What do you want to plug in?

For aftermarkey HU's that only take iPods is there anything you can do/buy to make it take other mp3 players?

I want to plug loads of things in, mainly a generic mp3 player, but I want to be able to play stuff from my mates mp3 players without any hassle.

3.5mm jack is on everything:)

the connect 2 options looks to be the way froward if I want to keep the original head unit, but I might just check out a replacement???

Thanks for all of the input everyone :)

not familiar with the head unit in the fabia but i would suggest that before you start splashing out a bit here and a bit there on cables and adapters etc that you check out some new head units. They don't have to break the bank I got a kenwood for my sisters car the other day for
