clarification for the confused!

Featured Replies

Hi

I am looking for clarification on some points, i have tried looking but found several different answers!

am looking to get my 55 oct vrs remapped, but how does this affect my warranty?

will it void it? ie should i wait till its run out?

also, can i get warranty work done at any VAG dealer or does have to be dealer?

also, does anyone have any indication of what difference insurance will be for an unmapped to a remapped, ie what % as i know quotes differ.

i know, lots of questions, but your advice so far has been superb, thought i would try again!

cheers

G

A remap will certainly void you warranty as your car is less than 3 years old (mine comes up to this age in a couple of months and I'm considering the same!), but it all depends on what line your local dealer takes on how warranty issues are dealt with on a remapped car.

Officially I believe "most" would deny all knowledge and allow minor work to be carried out, providing the remap wasn't to blame (e.g. clutch or engine related etc) but it's not a risk I would be prepared to take, hence I'm still standard. I expect there are plenty of people on here who HAVE remapped under warranty but I expect they will want to remain annonymous for obvious reasons!

Insurance wise I can only offer advice based on the limited fishing I've done and it seems that if you use the online forms you will get silly quotes as they usually go on up to 10%, 10-20% etc basis and a standard octy remap will get between 20% and 27% (215-230bhp from 180) depending on the mapper and dyno used so you'd be better off to just ring around and pose the question.

thanks

It will not void your warranty!!

It will however void any parts of the warranty where failure could be attributed to the remap. If your paint starts flaking off the boot lid, they can't say it's your remap. If the radio stop working, it aint the remap's fault.

You should have one of these with your car -

Alright, Calm down, Eh?! :P

Ok, I was referring to the way certain dealers "may" use a remap as an excuse to refuse a warranty claim, regardless of if it's remap related. (only based on horror stories read etc.)

If this is wrong, I stand corrected

And for warranty work you car has to go to a Skoda dealer.

It's not a dig at you mate, the problem lies where people assume that as soon as you touch something the whole shooting match is lost, and it's not the case.

Given the current climate with regards to SUK it pays to be sure of your position before making a move. ;)
