Woooooosssshhhhh! That sounded expensive. Help please, broken again.

Hmmm, only weeks after replacing my MAF sensor, my beloved 1.9 TDi has decided she likes new parts and would seemingly like another.

Driving up a hill on the A59 this evening at only a moderate pace, there was an almightly woosh of air from under the bonnet. Now when driving all you can here is air coming from under the car and the power is very on-off. The turbo kicks in for about 1 second (with a jet engine like noise), and the following second the engine dies, and this repeats again and again, worsening under load. Top speed 25mph.

Being dark and muddy outside, and stuck in works car park hasnt helped my investigations. Anyone had previous expierence. As an avid old skool skoda fan (my other home is in the Czech Republic) dont know much about these TDi engines. Help please!

Intercooler hose come off (or maybe split?)?

Chris

Sounds to me like a boost pipe has come lose or split, happened to one of our turbo diesel vans at work (pipe connection jumped off the intercooler),

Maybe, im not sure. Where abouts should I be looking?

Look for your intake manifold - there's usually a metal adaptor onto the engine with a big rubber pipe coming off it, approx 2" diameter. This usually disappears into the bottom of the engine bay at the front and in the end goes to the turbo on the back of the engine.

Sounds like a popped hose to me. Nowt to really worry about. Might just need an extra jubilee clip to secure it when re-attached. :)

Right, thanks for that. Looks like i will be taking my overalls to work with me tomorrow morning. Shall report back then. Really, thanks to all of you. Big Pound Signs flashed before my eyes when it happened.... at least i will be able to sleep easier tonight.

If it was just wooosh, with perhaps some smoke, and no really mechanical type graunching, then it will be a hose. This has happened many times on here and only a couple of times has it turned out to be a turbo failure.

So, after a bit of searching, i found a pipe which went from the air filter to the turbo had for some unkown reason popped off. Cant really understand how, as it was very tight to fit back on. Anyway, repaired, tested and alls back to normal. Thanks guys

No worries, although I AM suprised that hose came off as that side of the turbo is not really pressured (in comparison to post turbo side)
