turbo inlet

Featured Replies

i want a new turbo inlet but dont know what is better and where to get it from, could you please help me and put me in the right direction

also have another question, does anybody know the power/torque handling capabilities of the haldex on 4x4's

Bengie,

On it's own it might not make a huge and noticable difference. Okay that said, Jim @ Awesome have the neuspeed units also fitting is possible and not to far from your base.

As to the power handling, this was a question I tried to get a defined answer to. It is not as high as the TT system owing in theory (Mike @ Jabba) to it only being a 2 shaft design and not 3 as per TT's. As such there wasa rough figure of upto 270lbs of torque, should be good for a daily drive, so 300BHP in theory I guess...but I offer no warranty and since my rear gearbox was duff when I traded mine in I'd say a lower figure. I was running 220+ Brake and 240+torque.

No problems so far with 230bhp/250lbft - but there again I am reputed to drive like an OAP. Brian at Jabba might have a better idea since he is in the process of modding his 4X4.. :(

ah the joys of (hal)dex:)

should be fine to 270 bhp 280lbs going off what tt's are running in the US. but they dont do corners and stuff so driving style could be a factor.

Apart from the Neuspeed you've also got the ABD and Samco TIP.

Both a available from Impossible Performance.

Give Mike a call mention Briskoda and he may give you a discount or put you on the Group Buy list. I think though he's still waiting for delivery of the ABD TIP.

The Samco TIP is basically a silicon hose that goes from the MAF to the turbo. In retrospect this may be better than replaicing with another metal TIP in that it is a single piece and has potentially better flow.

On the flip side you'll have to remove from original pipe and reconnect up the N75, DV etc. Also read that connecting to the turbo end is real bar steward.

The choice is yours. :D

What makes you think this Adrian? I'm still waiting for Mike to get the ABD's in, but if Samco's are even better (albeit marginal), then please put me out of my misery :D

:D

I did use the words "may be" and "potentially". :D

Read a lot about the TIP on the MKIV forums here and Stateside....a lot of those guys rate the Samco item.

Will have a dig again for an answer.

* Q smells Adrian digging a hole for himself ;)

Right from what I can make out, the Stateside peeps reckon the Samco TIP is better because it is a single piece from MAF to turbo and thus giving a better flow.

Also the part just after the MAF is smooth as opposed to corrigated in the OEM pipe.

Must say that the isn't any facts/figures to back this up.

It seems also that a lot of people (and their mechanics) have had problems fitting the Neuspeed TIP where it need a slight modification.

I can see some of their logic regarding the Samco but I'm not really bothered as I got the ABD already. :D

Decisions, decisions....what are you going to do Q? ;)

:D

But I can sort it, no probs, if don't get replies soon so don't despair. :D

I didn't mention any dates... AFAIK Mike is still waiting for ABD to get their finger out.

I'll be on the phone to him tomorrow. Will give you a buzz if he does.

Has anyone had updates on when the pipes will be arriving , before I call Mike.?????

Called him today, he's expecting them this Friday. ABD has actually shipped them this time...

OK me is confused. How can a metal pipe be replaced with a rubber - albeit silicone - item? I need a diagram...

Methinks there are two pipes in question here

Jon come on stop giggling and help out here!

The ABD pipe is metal Nick - curvy stainless as opposed to horrible cast OEM

I kneau that, I kneau that mode>

I'm guessing there's a turbo inlet pipe which is metal and a turbo outlet pipe which is rubber - there's certainly a rubber pipe from the turbo to the big metal pipe that runs across the back of the engine - if you unclip the heat shielding you can feel it at the RH end. I think that must be the outlet. I'm not sure where the inlet is.

I always wondered about this but the Samco TIP is a one piece silicon hose (I guess) from the MAF to the turbo.

I haven't seen one in detail so can't say whether there is an metal content at the turbo end.

I'll try and find the pic of it next to the original pipe work.

Here's the pic:

Ah right - gotcha!
