VRS - a few quick questions - experts apply within!

Featured Replies

Hi guys, could anyone answer a few quick questions I have on the Mk II VRS please...

1, What size are the front and rear disks?

2, How many speakers does the standard VRS audio setup have; 8 or 12?

3, What is the output of the standard head unit in watts?

4, Does ithe car run a side or front mount intercooler? (is it efficient in the hot weather)?

5, Is the glovebox cooled by the a/c? (I know the Jumbo box is)

6, Do the external mirror housings have down/puddle lights built in?

Many thanks,

Lee

1: Not sure on the vRS, I'll have a look

2: 8 speakers, 4 main and 4 tweeters

3: I believe it's 4 x 40 watts

4: The intercooler is front mounted

5: Yes, there is a small adjustable outlet on the RHS of the glovebox and it works well

6: No, they come on the elegance and L&K, don't know about the possibility of retro for them as yet.

Many thanks for that, if anyone knows the disc sizes that would be great. :)

Lee

Possible sizes but verification required:

Front discs: 312 x 25mm vented

Rear discs: 256 x 22 mm vented

Those sizes sound familiar. Hmmm. Mk1 VRS sizes arent they?! Hmmm.

The front discs are 312mm, but iirc use a different offset (but same calliper)

the rear discs however are different.. they are not vented, and they seem quite large..

Stream/mp3 is 20W per channel and speakers are rated to 30W (only), so watch out if you put an aftermarket unit in.

Yes

Not on the vRS; L&K only I believe

Brake discs on the vRSII are 5x112 ;)

Rears are not vented.

VWspares are wrong then :P

I could have sworn blind the Stream was 4x40, I know the MFD2 is 4x20 and it doesn't sound as potent as the Stream.

Balls..............

I tried enabling the puddle lights but the wiring must be missing as it gives a code.

THats a real shame - i'd love to have sussed this mod out. SIlly question Stu - but presumably there is a seperate bulb in the wing mirror for this function? Would you get the error back if there simply wasnt a bulb in the holder as opposed to the loom not being present?

Im quite amazed that the VRS doesnt sport rear vented disks - I thought the Mk1 even had those! Oh, well, they certainly did the job on the test drive. :)

Brake discs on the Octy II vRS are vented - frront, solid - rear, and are exactly the same as on Golf GTI and Leon FR (VAG parts bin don't you know).

I think you might find the compared to the Octy I, whilst the rears are not vented they are larger.

It's one of those things that just needs looking at. As far as I can see from the parts catalogue it's the same plug to the door mirror, whether it has the wiring to it or not I don't know.
