Leaving the car on Axle Stands........

Featured Replies

Ok this may seem like a silly question and I am fairly certain it would be ok but wondered if anyone else has an opinion.

While I am away on Holiday in August, I am thinking of having my standard 18" Zeniths powdercoated in anthracite. While I am away in the states is the perfect time as I won't be running the car. Can anyone see any problems with jacking the beastie up and resting it on 4 axle stands for 3 weeks so I can send the wheels away and then get the tyres refitted to the coated rims and re-fit when I get back?

I will be using Triple S in Bradford for the powder coating as there work is outstanding (and cheaper than many other places)

cheers

it's not good practice to have the car suspended on 4 axle stands because there is a chance it can slip off

Can't see it being a problem so long as you make sure it's completely secure and the axle stands are on firm ground and not rusty etc

Thinking of that, I may have to see if I can do it at the inlaws house or something as my driveway slopes downwards

NO! it must be absolutely level and firm (sorry, I assumed that you meant it was going to be in a garage) :(

maybe see if you can borrow a couple (or even four) wheels/tyres off someone to rest it on while away even old rusty steel one would be OK and better than jacking it up on a slope

:iagree:

if you could borrow two wheels it would be ideal

You could always use the spare as one of the wheels, and just borrow another one from someone.

There is always the breeze block solution (with a bit of carpet to protect the underseal).

Having said that the MR2 has pretty wide reinforced sills to balance on.

Just rest it on your mud flaps :)

But if you use breezeblocks (or bricks), then make sure you tell the men in blue or they'll think you've gone away for some time and some scrote has nicked all your wheels

Gave my next-door neighbours a fright the following morning (I took them off the previous night after work). :D
