Aircon

Featured Replies

How do you guys set your climate control up? Auto at a certain temp etc..?

Interested because I just got my car regassed and am going to start using it. Apparently it blew as low as 7c but just popped out and ran it quickly and it doesn't feel very cold at all...

Econ is economy mode which means the air con isn't on yea? :)

Do you need the engine running?

Econ does indeed means the cooling isn't on :)

Yes you do need your engine running.

I put it at 21 degrees and just left it on the MK I, but set it to `lo` to see if it blows cold.

If it doesn't get the compressor clutch checked out as it is not unknown for these to work loose.

Well skoda checked it out yesterday and said everything was functioning fine, it just needed a regass- so regassed it today.

I'll try running it with the engine on then later (can you tell I'm a nice car nooby?). :P

I set mine to "Auto" at 20 deg C.

"Econ" mode regulates the temperature without using the compressor, i.e. only using outside air, so you can use it in the winter/autumn months when the air outside is cold enough to cool the car down.

You can easily tell if the aircon is working, but another couple of simple tests is to listen for water "trickling" away when you switch the engine off (the condensor will have removed water from the air), or open the bonet and see if there is condesation on the airconditioning pipes.

Do you find it effects the fuel economy / performance much?

Auto at 18C. I'm finding that lower outside temp tends to mean poorer fuel consumption (diesel engine), rather than the climate having much effect.

Mine was always on auto at either 21 or 20 degrees.

It did make a couple of mpg difference but not enough to bother me.

I dont see any difference in MPG, so I leave it set between 20-22 all the time on AUTO.

I can feel the slight power drop on AUTO so mostly set it to ECON.

I don't notice difference in fuel but noitce a slight drop in power. Which i have tested by hitting auto whilst accelerating
