Oil for my 1.9 TDI

Featured Replies

I know my car should use VW 505.01

But would it do harm to use VW 505.00 instead?

Mainly because i can get the VW 505.00 very cheaply (10 litres of Castrol semi syn) from places like Costco, it's in abundant amounts everywhere!

And i doubt local car servicing places would use anything special, just 10w-40 mineral diesel oil.

Why do you think it's cheaper?;)

You should only use 505.01 if it's a PD. If the car is serviced to spec then they will use the correct oil too. PD oil can be had for around

Why would the specification stipulate 505.01 if it wasn't neccesary?

If you want to save money, put the correct oil in.

If you want a whole load of expense, put the wrong oil in.

That's assuming you'll be keeping the car.
