Advice please

Featured Replies

Hello everyone. My first posting so would be grateful to benefit from your valued advice.

I have a Skoda 2002 Fabia Silverline which I am happy with apart from one niggling problem. The rear washer had not been working for over a year. It has now been unblocked, but my mechanic says that it needs a new nozzle for the washer. I have tried Skoda, GSF and Euro Cars all to no avail. any ideas how to to get hold of one?

There is a lesser problem. Tickover is a little low, and I would like to know how to resolve. Usually there is a an adjustment screw near the injectors, but I have tried and can't work out where it is.

Any help that anyone can give would be very much appreciated

Regards

Peter

Hiya.

Ref the washer jet, not sure how the mechanic reaches the conculsion it needs replaced. It either sprays water into the wiper arc or it doesn't! As for sourcing, have you tried a normal accessory shop rather than a dealership or a motor factor? Saying which, AFAICS the one on my Octy (estate) is part of the high level brake light and may not be available separately.

Wrt the tickover, petrol or diesel engine and cable or fly-by-wire throttle actuation?

I would see if you think this might be the source of your washer problems -

Fabia-vrs.com - Repairs to Rear Washer Pipe - Fabia and Octavia (A4 / A5).

Problems arise when owners don't use VAG screen wash with the fanjet washers, they block up and cause the pipe to blow off.

If that isn't the cause and you stall want a new jet then ask your Skoda dealer to see if 3B9 955 985 A is suitable.

You don't mention which engine you have in your silverline although I think they were only 1.2 or 1.4 Petrol. That being the case, your dealer or someone with VAG-COM can change the tickover for you.

Cheers. Does anyone know what, other than stickers on the bottle, is so different about VAG screen wash then? I would add that IMO a washer jet design that can only tolerate one make of screen wash is a design defect, regardless of SUK's take on the matter.

I don't know Ken.

It's like the oil I suppose, they like to be different. TBH I always use it, it's cheap enough and works well.

I live literally hundreds of miles from the nearest Skoda dealer, and even the nearest VW dealer would mean a day off work.

Well fortunately we now have a forum sponser who offers a mail order service.

I use Halfords own consentrated screen wash and mix it up my self........No problem with fan jets................:)
