Seat Cleaning & Wind Noise

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Still new to all this. Have my new VRS now about 6 months. Have only noticed that there is an excessive wind noise once I hit a certain speed. This is like a very loud humming noise.....has anyone else come accross it ?

On the seat cleaning, does anyone recommend any cleaning products/treatments for the seat, especially the suede as the gray got a stain on it....grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Well hope to hear from you all soon.

Safe driving.

There were some adjustments required to the rear windows at one point on the Octavia, where is the noise coming from?

HA HA very funny little jack. What's the point getting a car that can to excess of 160KPH (100mph), when the noise kicks in at this speed. Very annoying.

Lummox, the noise seems to be coming from the centre of the dash. I am leaving it in to be serviced on Monday & I'll see what they say. Should be good to listen to the sh*te that service guys spew of of they gobs.

Obviously you don't know what Lummox does for a living then  .

If yours is a PD170 then it should be new enough to have had the mod for the rear windows. There is quite a bit of noise from around the A Pillars.

I also have wind noise and mine is TFSI model 2006. Is it normal so wind noise? What i have to check on rear windows?

Your dealer should have a Service Bulletin detailing the checks to be made.

When I read the title of this thread I thought the two problems were connected, I find imodium helps.:P

OK all just to clarify about the noise in the car. There is no noise up to about 100mph, but as soon a you start to go over this a humming begins. It starts off very low, but the faster you go the louder it gets. It sounds as if it comes from the center of the dash. If there is a head wind, this noise can start at a lower speed.

I've had this problem in my 54 reg 2.0TDI for over a year - it's developed to two sounds, like a harsh intrusive whistle at slightly different tones, one from each side of the car. Comes in around 100mph in a tailwind, down to 65mph in a strong headwind. Sound familiar? Every time I mention it to the dealers, they have failed to reproduce it because "we can't exceed the speed limit to reproduce the fault".

Finally I managed to get to the dealers on a windy day, took a technician out and reproduced the sound for him at <70mph. He agreed there was a problem. I took the car in to be fixed today, and once again, they claimed they couldn't reproduce the problem - not surprising, as today wasn't windy. The technician who heard the fault had left. Fortunately, I bumped into him picking up his tools in the carpark, where he gave his opinion of my dealer - not very complimentary. Anyway, I took another technician out and reproduced the noise, but had to go to 100mph to do it. The dealers "Master Technician" then went into a classic fob-off exercise. So we're at an impasse with the dealer. I'm really pleased someone else has this noise and it isn't just my car - please make sure you talk to your dealer and get them to circulate the description on the service network, and we may be able to get some resolution. In the meantime, Skoda will probably start to get letters from me.

Oh yeah, just to clarify, the noise definitely comes from the front - sounds fairly low down behind the dash around the bulkhead. I get two noises - they're not as far out as the wings, but not right in the centre, from what I can tell.

Silicon Lubericant on the door seals seems to reduce the quite frankly excessive wind noise.

Wind noise turned out to be an incorrectly fitted windscreen. An uncle of mine had the same problem with a merc.

After getting a new one re-fitted, not a peep out of it......even excess of 100mph....only did this for test purposes only of course :-)

So get into your dealers & tell them.

cynic, i had a problem with the gear box, that occured at a certain speed they werent happy with, so I offered to drive for them, and suddnely the fault was found :P

Seat cleaning is something I'd like to know as well. From what I can tell Alcantara is ok to clean with a soft cloth and water. Its made to be stain resistant. The black spongey cloth I wanted to put some scotchgard like stuff on to keep it cleaner. The rest of the seat is hard, some bits are obviously leather, but lots of it seems to be vinyl....does anyone have a diagram stating what is what...

Tonight my mate sat in the car in shorts with a cut on his leg. Got quite a lot of blood over the light coloured alcantara bit at the front of the seat. Came out completely with very little effort with just a couple of bits of quite damp kitchen roll, lightly dabbing at it and moving on to a fresh bit of damp kitchen roll, absorbing excess moisture with a dry bit of kitchen roll every few dabs. It came out very quickly and I then dried the whole thing thoroughly again with more dry kitchen roll. No traces at all of blood and no water marks.

I'm amazed and very impressed. I should also mention my car was Supergarded. I don't know if that helped.
