Once you have a problem car its the dealers problem as SUcK wash their hands of it.

Thermosat breaking can cause number of unrelated probelms like flickering headilghts nd power steering problems.

Many thanks for that post, Mark. I know nothing about cars and those exact symptoms are present in my wife's Fabia, so at least I can investigate that now rather than be thrown to the lions after the garage realise I am an ignoramus.

06 VRS skoda have a mod for vibrating gearstick at idle (all linked with lumpy tickover and stutter) had mine done, it improved it but not cleared it

From my time on this forum and the two months I've had my Fabia, a summary of some general known problems:

Leaking door seals

Leaves blocking drain hose in plenum chamber in ventilation system causing rain to leak into front passenger footwell

Power steering position sensor causing flickering headlights

Front antiroll bar/associated bushes failing causing knocking noises from the front suspension

Piston rings on 1.4 16v petrol engine

Head gasket on 1.4 8v petrol engine

hand brake locking on/scraping noise from brakes when car is parked up for a while (ubiquitous problem on all cars since asbestos friction material was banned)

Petrol engine is sensitive to a dirty throttle body/throttle body alignment problems - symptoms could include rough idle, momentary loss of revs whilst cruising, lack of power.

I'm sure there are plenty more, especially regarding the diesel engines as I've no experience of these.

What about flaking paint on the bumpers, They won't sodding fix mine :(

defo the rear brakes mine were doing this took it in found brakes perfectly fine and safe but they cleaned them anyway as there was alot of crap in them has improved but still there especially in ciold weather spoke to skoda garage and they said 3 fabia vrs had bheen in over the last couple of weeks for the same problem no skoda fix he did say maybe there is a fault with the compound for the brake pads but that would not be covered under warranty if they were changed ha ha what a joke!!!

I have noticed a small damp patch (ooerr)

is it easy to fix with a bit of PTFE on the thread?

Shouldnt use ptfe tape on cars ive always been told. Too much to melt it (such as fuel / oil / any other petrolium product).

Would fine an alternate.

PTFE is insoluble in virtually all solvents at the temps you will experience in a cars engine bay. Some Floruinated solvents will attack it but non-polar fluids like engine oil, hydrocarbon fuels etc will not have any significant effect. The PTFE itself won't melt as its melting point is around 327'C [ otherwise the lining of your frying pan would be a bit sticky :) ]
