Handbrake!

Featured Replies

I have just changed the rear discs and pads - was suprised how easy a job it is if you have the right tools.

I took the car for a spin and found that the handbrake no longer holds the car on a hill. I know it will take time to bed the pads/discs in but the handbrake is coming up too far anyway so def needs adjustment.

What is the best way to adjust the handbrake - via the central consol or from the caliper end?

Any help would be appreciated guys #

cheers:)

You wont need to adjust it, just tug on it a good few times, pump the pedal and give it a good 10 miles to settle in.

If you adjust the cable it will end up buggering it all up. I assume the handbrake was fine before so you aint suddenly made the cables longer so no adjustment is required.

Cheers Lummox, but im not sure that will be enough. I did notice that the overall thickness of the new discs was narrow compared to the old one. I compared the out edge which was not worn with the outer edge of the new ones.

This makes me think that there is a bit of travel that needs to be taken up. Before I started the handbrake was perfect, now its way way too high, so much so the handbrake cover is showing where it pivots at the consol end.

After I wrote the first message I went and tightened it a little - maybe 1 to 1.5 turns on the 10mm nut at the consol

What do you think?
