Welcome.

Check out ross-tech.com for the VAG-COM software, they are the manufacturers.

Hello gitser and welcome. It seems odd that your dealer would charge for a diagnostic check, although I don't know what the small print in your warranty says.

The engine management light is a blanket indicator that "something" is wrong and a diagnostic check will give a code. If you can get one, people on here will probably be able to help. Although if it is to be fixed under warranty, I'd have thought the garage would most likely want to rely on their own check and findings before undertaking any work.

Perhaps read the warranty carefully. The engline light indicates a fault and presumably your warranty covers faults, then have another word with the dealer?

Thanks for the info lads, i have read the small print in the warranty and there is a load of exclusions such as lights fuses' ect ect. under what they call wear and tear items. this is the third time i'v had a problem with the car.

first time it was an oil pressure switch. guess what its a wear and tear item.

The dealer isnt the rip off merchant the company behind the warranty cover would seem to be.

At the end of the day the dealer is just making sure they are going to get paid for any work that is done, just about what any self respecting buisness would do.

Hi Lummox, Iagree that everyone has to make a decent living but the reality is the insurance company were not paying for this one,and the dealers first quote was €360. this was to relace the faulty part on the front passenger side. the part in question cost €9.06 . after i argued the toss with them it was reduced to€120 to do the repair. while it was in the shop they rang and suggested getting the other side done while they had the car up on the ramp the cost would then be in the region of €150. when the job was done the invoice was as follows.

labour 1.40 hrs....................................................€112.

Parts --- rubber mounts 2 @ €9.06 each ............€18.36

SUB TOTAL ...........................................................€130.12

VAT @ 13.5% on €130.12 ...................................€17.57

Total......................................................................€147.69

thats a difference of more than €200 on their first quote (which was only to replace one bushing). what was this extra €200 for ? it's not as if they dont know how much they charge for labour and parts as they are a main dealer/ supplier. If i had'nt argued the toss with them what would have been on the invoice? how would they have made up the diffence to justify the €360 quote?

Yes these voided rubber bushes are a bit of a pain in the neck, my VW dealer wanted around

I would think the first quote was for replacing the console and as you thought it was too expensive they just changed the bush. Many places will not just change the bush if they dont have the tooling to do so or if they have has too many go wrong before which does happen.

do any of you you ever see the tv show house of horrors. this is were they set up maintanence problems in a house to catch out rouge traders who rip off their customers. a typical set up would be to loosen a joint on some plumming and would only need the turn of a spanner to sort it out. then they get in the rouge trader that takes a look and and after major assesment tell the customer that its a major problem. needs expensive parts and the bill ends up in the

Sorry rum4mo had to go off line before i addressed your comment. there is different rates of VAT depending on what way your catagorised , I.E GOODS OR SERVICES. one rate is 13.5% the other is 21%. a couple of years ago the govenrment reduced the higer rate of VAT by 1% but the supplier and traders did not pass the reduction on... hence one of the terms used here to describe the ROI is Rip Off Republic. Ther has been TV shows here to to highlight this.
