Headlight protection covers

Featured Replies

Just got my L&K 2.0tdi DSG Octy Was wondering if anyone out there coul help me with where I can get anyheadlight protection covers as I am led to beleive that if a head light glass is damaged it could cost a lot to renew.

So HELP needed

The headlights are made from plastic not glass, and having driven more than 15K miles have no damage on mine.

One thing to bear in mind having driven lots of courtesy cars this year (don't ask).... My standard Elegance headlights without protectors are the best of any car I've driven, being extremely bright.

The courtesy cars tend to have protectors fitted and the difference in the beam brightness is reduced greatly and tends to be a different colour altogether. My car has nearly 70k on now and there's no damage to my headlights as per the above post. Don't bother IMHO.

I have had headlamp protectors in the past and they diffuse the light, albeit by a small degree, and make keeping the lights clean a bit tricky as you have to take them off to do this and get at the headlamp glass behind. Additionally, they can mist up in certain conditions which is hardly desirable.

As an alternative I have just ordered some 3M Scotchguard paint protection film of suitable size from Premier Paint Guard (Paint Protection Film - Fully Installed or Diy Kits- from Premier Paint Guard) to do the job.

As this is a clear film that sticks to the headlamp glass it protects, is easy to clean, is less visible than plastic headlamp protectors (a neighbough has a new Golf GT with headlamp protectors and it looks decidely naff) and provides 100% clear vision/light that is particularly important if you have xenons fitted as I do.
