Engine Pre-Heater Options

Featured Replies

Hi guys - anyone got any experience of selecting and installing an engine-pre-heater system like the Kenlowe?

Looking for a recommendation (either for or against) for something like the Kenlowe where you can plug your car into the mains to get the engine block warm in winter months (easy defrost, cabin warm, better mpg, less wear etc).

If anyone's installed one, let me know what you think!

Cheers

This system is worth looking at. IIRC fitting instructions are available on that site so you can see what is involved.

Is your car outside at night, road or off-road, or is it garaged?

I use a tube heater running off the mains in my garage during the colder nights. Its only 70w, but it makes a difference to the cars warming up when its cold.

I just rest it on its wall clamps on the floor under the engine bay.

Cheers DGW and Kentish - I'll check out www.defa.com.

vRS is kept on the drive - garage full of "useful" stuff! Heat tube sounds like a good, cheap solution if you keep the car garaged, and no warranty complications either - do you notice the difference?

Yes you do, but mainly on starting as its just like starting it in the summer. I admit it doesnt start with a hot coolant system, but it does allow the car to heat sooner and start easier which must count for something.
