Cruise control....

Featured Replies

I've just bought a couple of things from my local dealer....

One of which is a "cruise control" kit. It's on the Skoda accessories page for

Personally, I'd get Stu to do it!!!

Cheers, after the fact, it's obvious I should have linked that in with my earlier post.... :o

Bearing in mind I have a later car - 55 reg, and Skoda seem to offer a CC "kit". Is there still the need to go dismantling 1/2 of the car and run wires willy-nilly to get the job done...

No idea, mate. Our car is '05 too, so I'd be interested to know. Otherwise, I'm going the Stu route, who charges

I now have Cruise.

Thanks very much to VRStu. I don't know all of what he did as I was off on a walk to get some oil during the fitting and he'd finished by the time I came back. It works brilliantly, perfectly. :)

The guy's a perfectionist. He even oiled the steering rake/reach adjustment as it was a bit stiff/stuck. Just a shame I didn't vacuum/wash the car beforehand.... ho-hum... Well, I've done it now, instead. :o

Cheers,

J.

I'm glad it's all ok and you are happy with it.

It'll be like christmas time for that car if you ever get to hoover it out. Perhaps you'll recognise the carpets again!!!

A word of warning with those kits, it's not as simple as you might think as it's designed to be dealer fit only and assumes you already know pretty much what you are doing. The instructions are also incorrect. I've had a few people recently who have bought the kit and then realised it was beyond their capabilities, as I am sure Vindaloo will agree. :P

...beyond my abilities to get it working in a neat, tidy and reliable way? Yes, probably right about that. I think I'd have got it going "some how" but it'd probably take me days to sort out with 1/2 of the car's interior in the house for an extended period. Add in the cost of VAG-COM or a trip to the dealers to fiddle with the cruise control settings and it becomes too much of a chore.

I was only away for 30-45 minutes and you'd finished by the time I got back :) A much better alternative, and I got to refresh my memory of the A32 and A339.

As an add on to Stu's comments, the Skoda site does NOT indicate that specialist fitting is required of this kit. They use a "spanner" symbol where technical/specialist help is required. But this is not used in the description of cruise control kit.

Yeah - sorry I didn't mean it to sound derogatory. ;)

The website might not display the details of it being for dealer fitting but the opening gambit in the enclosed instructions are - "The installation requires the Service Manual and VAG Diagnostic Device and therefore can be performed only by the Authorised Skoda Auto Service."

As I posted above the instructions are also incorrect, you wouldn't have gotten in working with the included instructions I can assure you. ;)

I'm just glad I chose the right option.... Having the car in bits wouldn't have been good, especially if I couldn't get the CC going....

Again, thanks :)

J.

Again, thanks :)

Oh, get a room, you two!
