Mate - My quote is
Hi Welshy,

I just wondered where you got your quote from please?? Can also ask ( if you don't mind ) how old you are & how many years ncb you have too??

I currently drive a Company Car, but got a quote for a vRS with Adrian Flux and got a price of

Welshy, if the lad wants to have a car, he wants to have a car. Simple. U seem to be turning everything into a debate recently and it makes for tiring reading.

Ultra_joel88, go for it dude, if I had the money for a decent car when I was your age I would've jumped at the chance! Your insurance quotes are fine - I have friends who are slightly older than you who pay a similar rate, insurance is just more expensive these days. Also if your parents are paying for it then hey, go wild! :)

Thanks mate :)

I've had a few slightly better quotes anyway and I'm yet to try Flux and Brentacre... I get 15% off with Flux as well as Im a member of corsa-c.co.uk

Bell quoted me

Tesco and Directline came in cheapest for me when I was your age. One thing to bear in mind is that if you have the modding bug, you might find that Flux et al won't insure you until you're 21....

You could also try the site-sponsor Chris Knott....

Chris

I do have the modding bug but I am intelligent enough to know that modifying your car when your insurance does not allow it is a mugs game and I wouldnt do it. I intend to keep the vRS a good 4-5 years so I can wait.

Other thing to consider if its still in warrenty you will totally void it by carrying out modifications.

So a fault which is nothing to do with the modifying you have done could result in the part not replaced & paid for by Skoda. DItto any other car make.

Yeah... they can be tight buggers these car makers! My gear linkage went on my Corsa and they tried to wriggle out of it by blaming it on the alloy wheels! No chance though.

^^^go for it man i am 19 and got a wicked job so i will be buying a vrs soon and my insurance will be roughly the same!!

i am happy to do it as i have a 1.4 corsa SRI and they want 800 for that so screw that i will just buy my vrs, i aint as lucky to have my parents pay the insurance tho...prob coz i have a good job i am sure if i was at uni they would lol

Hey are you over on Corsa-c.co.uk or do you have a B?

What you all do not want is more & more accident damaged vRS's this will increase the risk profile of the car and premiums for all users will go up.

Along with that there will be a sub group - IF everyone has declared modifications and the data reveales that it you drive a modified vRS you are much more likely to have an accident premiums will go up even more/if the risk profile is too much they will just make it so expensive its stupid to own the car.

i.e. J Clarkson when he has an Escort Cosworth in London car worth

I totally agree. I imagine a lot of you think that at 19 I probably drive like an idiot. But I, like many of other people my age actually don't. I love my cars too much to abuse them and go ragging them about... a car is like a woman... treat her gently lol.

Yes we do lack the experience on the road but I am aware of this and drive accordingly.

Its just a shame the vast majority of my peers do not. And now the vRS is gaining a higher profile in magazines like Max Power its not long before all the plonks end up with one and crash it because they thought they could take a corner at 90mph and nothing would happen.

i wont be modifying my vrs i am happy with how it is std. i work ******* hard for my money and want to spend it on a nice car that i really love, and if i can afford the car and the insurance, i no my own driving limits..so i dont drive like *****, they i will buy it.

also does it not make sense to buy a car that can handle abit more like cornering faster than normal, and a good set of brake etc...rather than me doing the same thing in my corsa that wont be able to hanle it and dying!!.

i dont drive like a ****, but i want a nice nippy car that is good on fuel, looks good and makes me smile everytime i see it....VRS here i come!

Exactly. I just want something comfortable... which is a little bit flashy with a nice reputation that the vRS badge has... but nothing garish that stands out so people want to damage it. Need a bit of poke just to occassionally annoy ***** who like to go up my backside in their Lexus-lighted VTR's (come on... who can resist it when you see a huge ripspeed sticker across the front), and a nice comfortable interior to eat away those miles when I come home :)

2004's just random, because it isn't even about facelift then. My first one was a March 2004, but wasn't a facelift.

The facelift car is properly described as 2004 - since it was launched in September 2004. The pre-facelift car however should be noted as 2003-2004.

There IS a significant difference that no one has mentioned; the higher gearing on the early pre-facelift cars would in theory might mean accceration is slower. However I suspect the difference in reality is pretty marginal.

For those saying "lower gearing?" at this point, the later cars had a sixth gear approximating to fifth gear on early cars - the change was around the start of 2004.

How would you tell if youve got this lower box then?

My car doesnt need to engage 6th until 60mph. Before then it judders a little and labours.

Newer box sits at 2,200 rpm in 6th at 70 mph, older style box sits around 1,800 rpm in 6th, the box was refined so you dont need to change down when cruising on the motorway, however the newer box wont be as economic

Hmmm I'll have to check it out... got a feeling I have the newer...

I have an 04 and so does my mate we both have the newer boxes, must be the very early models with the old box
