central control module for central conveniece

Featured Replies

i am having a mare right now.

doors open light is on.

no remote central locking

no electric windows

only 3 doors will lock on the door switch(this is an old niggle)

car will lock all doors with key barr passengers that pops back up and needs to be manually locked.

VAG-COM has shown the above as not communicating.

so this is the problem i have little doubt.

1. where is it on the 2001 octavia vrs

2.is it DIY able?

3.(not that it matters) how much?

i HAVE to MOT the car very very soon and i think no windows will fail.

any sensible suggestions welcome.

now i am going to walk to the offy and then get drunk i think :(

on the base of the drivers door grab handle controls the part number 1J4 959 857 A

other numbers on the sticker include BK7 and opposite the word spain 03 7550 20. is this the unit?

thanks

The convenience control unit is basically behind the light switch, you will have to remove the lower dash section to get at it.

Check for water ingress into the door control unit plug in the passenger door, water here will lead to corrosion of the pins and sometimes pin breakage, if OK check the drivers door.

That 1J4 number is the part number for that block of switches. What are the exact VAG-COM codes?

Windows that wind up and down are not a MOT requirement, the doors should be able to open from the outside and the inside.

I would say that all these are DIYable even to the extent of soldering a new pin onto a door control unit.

at lest i can solve the rattle .small piece of cable ti in the door well

  • Author

i have some how fixed it?!?!?!?!

pulled a few fuses ,to check them, some had lightly corroded blades, but all ok.

refitted the door card and as i connected up the convenience control to its socket i heard all the doors clunk.

tested everything and its all good.i have no idea what i have done, and i care not right now. but i have seemed to have "fixed " it.

got to get it back on VAG COM to see what that shows.

off to the offy tonight to celebrate.

wonder how long it will be ok for..

thanks fordfan

Nice one

just my luck lately.its packed up again(its raining. damp /moisture anyone?).

going to try and get this unit out from behind the light switch.

i'm presuming it has a part number on it,any idea as to what i am looking for?or the part number to compare it with.cheers.

It will begin 1J0959799 or 1CO962258 or 1CO959799 with a series of letters/numbers at the end. There are lots of different part numbers which are based on chassis number, drive configuration, market and model. If you can access it through VAG-COM it will give you all the part numbers.

I have never known one of these suffer from water ingress, the door control units are more likely to. The first door control unit that I would look at would be the one that controls the door that is misbehaving in your case the passenger door?

When you pulled the fuses it must have had the same effect that re-booting a computer has.

I would try an access address word 46, if you cant get in disconnect the window motors in turn and check to see if diagnostics comes back remember to reconnect afterwards.

cheers guys.

went to the car this morning,no life from the remote.pulled the fuse and replaced it,and it now works.(as you say,its rebooting itself)

signs of water ingress in the passenger door yesterday from the door handle(not much and the drain holes were ok) .only solution i could find was a bit of silicone sealant around it.but all the connections seem good and not let any water in.

i'm more peed off about the steering arm,and not being able to MOT the darn thing at the moment.

working on a sunday doesn't help none either:(

well it's going to have to be dealer time.

no windows, doors, mirrors at the moment.any idea on parts and labour costs please guys?

i still have no time to do anything.(miltek now gathering dust)and if it ever stops bloody raining i'll be happy(er)

A central control unit for convenience system should cost around

I think that door control units are that sort of money each, with door wiring looms around

being slightly tipsy makes it easier to take that very sad news.

i'm off to cry in my murphies.

a common problem is water in the connectior for the window motor in the drivers door as the central locking also plugs into it. clean it out and put some vaseline or grease in to repel the water.

all checked matey.things have got progressively worse.

is this the control unit in question behind the dash?

dash003.jpg

dash002.jpg

no longer getting door open light on dash, but still no remote central locking from the outside, but locks all barr passenger door inside on drivers door control, they all lock, then passenger pops back up.

no electric windows AT ALL(thank got its been wet and miserable)

no electric mirrors.

as you can imagine i want to be as certain i can be before i start spending 200+quid at a dealers or start hunting the scrappy.and i am NOT doubting any of the guys that have posted up to now,but i want to be sure that this is what needs replacing.

many thanks for the advice and of course your patients

it seems so.

checked everything i can AGAIN! nothing "seems" wrong.

You've checked the door control units for water ingress?, the door wiring looms for chafing and damage?, disconnected each door control unit in turn to see if you can initiate communication with the convenience unit? and the fuses.

We had an Octavia in one day that had very similar problems, it turned out to be a dodgy bulb/bulb holder in the boot light.

It may be worth checking the boot lock wiring as well.

As a last resort you have the part number for a convenience unit, give Gary a call at Skospares/Roadside assistance.

parted with 30 quid for one this afternoon.......

i now have electric windows again, but still no remote central locking, and the passenger side lock pops back up again from the door lock remote.

i have checked everything i can think of/you've suggested,i have actually started drinking now:O .

going to book it in at the dealers at this rate:(

  • Author

dealer taking a look at it today.

no remote C/L

key locking won't lock boot/passnger side pops back up from inside/or outsid of the car.

no leccy windows.

fitting different controller has got windows back ,but no locking.

no buzzing noise when you open drivers door(only noticed yesterday)

.sounds bloody expensive to me :(

let us pray.

well, all went reasonably well, the convenience unit that i bought from a breakers the other day,was fitted and reprogrammed by the tech and now all is as it was.

the drivers window still does a merry dance every now and then as its always done, and the passenger side lock pops up from the drivers remote button, again, which it has always done.

if i had known it needed reprogramming i would have fitted it myself, and got a mte with vag com to have a go,or at lest asked the dealer to do it.

as it was i thought it was plug and play.

so all in all,30 quid for the unit,88 quid for the fitting and reprog(they are going to do my second remote free).

thansk for the input everyone, i do go on a bit.
