tyres again, 225/45 over standard

Featured Replies

managed to get 2 nails in my tyre, took it to get repaired and discovered it has a crack right round the sidewall.

as i am considering getting 225/45R17 instead of the standard tyre, does anyone recommend this or should i stay standard fitment??

im looking at the Goodyear EAGLE F1 GSD3

i have 225/45's all round and they do give more grip in the dry, but.... well, put it this way, i'm praying for blue skies on the 24th of april :(

the other good reason for getting 225's is that they are cheaper than the odd sized 205/50's :)

cheers

225 back, 205 fronts... until the fronts wear out, then it will be 225's all around as well.

im looking at all 4 as they are all pretty low on tread, just wondering if the 225 are worth it

If its cheaper, then why not?

just wondering if there was any downside, afterall why didnt the vRS come with this tyre to start with? just looking for advice from people who have them

since we are on the subjet (i already posted this question elsewhere), has anybody heard about marangoni zeta line tyres. They are a fair bit cheaper for 225/45R17 than their equivalent toyo proxes. They also look good, but don't know about the performance...

go for the225/45 F1`s Kenny you will be sorry if you don`t..............better grip, and less noise to start with:D

 Phil

Project no.2 is underway - 17" wheels with performance tyres replacing the awful factory-fit Michelin Pilot HX MXMs, with winter tyres going on the old 16" rims - so thought I'd pick up on Kenny's thread to ask you about some tyres.

Here are a few that I informed about at a local tyre shop, also in 225/45 R17:

- Goodyear Eagle F1 DS-G3 (cheapest)

- Toyo Proxes T1-S (10 euros up per tyre)

- Bridgestone Potenza PP S03 (another 30 euros up)

- Pirelli P-Zero Nero (another 10 euros extra)

- Michelin Pilot Sport (80 euroquid more expensive than the Eagle F1s!)

Now, the S03s were specially advised to me because of their superior AWD behaviour and a special trick concerning a second fresh rubber layer exposing itself after the first 3mm wear, thus making them last considerably longer. They are supposed to be the best in the wet too. Is there any truth in all of this or should I simply go for the Goodyears?

And as a matter of interest, I'm considering these two alloys:

- Dotz Le Mans (http://ptc-nl.defisfive.com/images_bbv/wheels/R018-03/R018-03b.jpg)

- either AEZ Cyber (http://www.hogendoorn.nl/plaatjes_wielen/AEZ/img_aez_cyber.gif) or MAK Fiorano (http://www.gumibolt.hu/alufelni/mak/fioranon.jpg)

Those last two are Mrs D4x4's taste ;) , I'm more in favour of the uncluttered, elegant, multi-spoke Le Mans look.

Very nice alloys... get a good wheelbrush ;)

Can't comment on those tyres as I've only had experience with SportContacts 2...
