Window tinting???????

Featured Replies

I have looked on the search function for info about this bit it iis inconclusive.

Does anyone know the % legally allowed on the 2 front windows?

Why do some insurance companies not insure tinted window cars?

How much is it to tint, seems to be appox

About the only tint that is legal these days on the front is the oem tint, dont forget when making your calculations regarding tint to take into account the manufactures tint level.

35% tint (75% sun penetration) all around seems to look the best.

35% leaves 65% sun penetration

The legal tint max for the front windows is 30% with 70% sun

(according to some tinting websites i have been looking at)

You are not allowed any tint on the front windows or windscreen above standard tint under the law.

However you can do what you like from the B pillar backwards.

TBH I think you would get away with light smoke on the front unless the police in your area are very strict.

I've just had mine done by a reputable firm in manchester, and the fronts are on the legal limit, with a slightly darker rear.

I must admit it looks spiffing, and the cost was

The law IS that 70% of light must transmit through your glass. oem tint in the glass as standard can be as much as 20%, which leaves only 10% margin for error. If I were to get my fronts done, I would ensure the tinter had the same machine the police do and get it within the legal limit.

I would be interested to know the light transmission of the standard fabia glass. :)

I had my Fabia vRS tinted limo black all round, well apart from the front screen of course. After driving it round for about 4weeks I was stopped by the old bill on the m60. He got out his 'tint man' and it was reading 17% sunlight penetration. This was illegal as it had to be 70%. Anyway the guy was reasonable and said aslong as I removed them that afternoon he wouldnt pursue it anyfurther. I removed the front tints that afternoon and he came round to check that the windows were now legal. He took a reading of just the standard glass, and that read 64%!!!!!! There is not much point tinting your front windows for the sake of 6% and
