TP - Traffic Info - Help!

Featured Replies

Okay, I've had enough of it, how do I turn it off?

I'm talking about the Traffic Information Service that decides to interupt any radio/CD I'm listening to.

I've checked in the manual, no instructions on how to turn it off, but I find it no use at all, so, how can I get rid of it completely?

Its on the Stock Single Slot CD Player in my Fabia.

Cheers!

There should be a button marked "TA" for traffic alerts??? Been so long since I had the stock radio, I can't remember off the top of my head...

Tried pressing each button in turn until the display shows something? :D

If you press the TP button, when the radio is on normally, the function will turn off. The symbol will go off the display too.

Notice the little "TP" in the top left corner, this interupts and give me those wonderful traffic reports I just don't need!

Colin, I press the TP button and this is what I get...

Have you tried pressing it multiple times? Sometimes they have dual function - local and national. See if you can get rid of the TP in the corner somehow - that's what's doing it.

You should find that if you press TP during a traffic bulletin it will rock off and leave you to your music - temporary solution. I actually have TP on some of the time - it's useful when on motorways etc. but if you're in the middle of something mellow it's good to be able to tell the traffic stuff to shut up ...

I'm permanently tuned to local stations so all TP does in my radio is turn up the volume. Try holding down the TP button for 2 secs, you may hear a beep and it will be off. Otherwise, you will have to enter the settings area of the radio where you specify things like radio off when key is removed form ignition etc. I don't think you are able to do it this way but I'm not experienced with the single slot Fabia radio's are they are a new thing.

In some Skoda's the radio records the messages to replay if you say miss an important one. If this is the case you should have an AIM button too and if the radio is set to turn off when you remove the key from the ignition you will see a message like AIM 24hrs. Just for anybody's info....

Ok people, I managed to sort it! Yeah!

Hold down the A/F button for about 5 seconds, this will switch the Radio to AM Mode and TP is not available.

Switch to CD Mode and because TP is not available as the Radio is still in AM, there won't be any interuptions...

Get that?

Weird problem. In my Fabia all you do is hit the TP button to turn on and the TP button to turn off. If you switch to AM in my car TP will remain on and it will return to the traffic announcements on FM and then switch back to AM after the announcements. Different systems I presume.

Page 6 of the manual tries to explain it, but you can tell it's translated! :)

Pressing the TP button briefly will bring up the 'TP only' function/memory which will only tune via the manual search << and >> buttons or the 'scn' scan button to stations capable of providing 'traffic program' AFAIK all FM stations in the UK do). There's also a TP memory that lets you set 6 radio stations that provide TP to the 1-6 buttons, this is in addition to the FM1 and FM2 (so there's 3 sets of 6 memories for FM/VHF radio stations - FM1, FM2 and TP - giving a total of 18 memory 'slots').

This is your second picture.

Now, in my vRS in order to switch off the 'TP will interrupt' function, which is shown as enabled by the little 'TP' display top left in the first picture, play a CD, press the 'A/F' button to change to 'normal TP off' FM (or AM), then press the CD button again. Which is what you have done. I think you can also press the TP button again to turn off the 'TP interrupt'

This is different to the previous Skoda stereos where the TP button enabled or disabled TP interrupt, or reverted back to previous play mode when interrupted - more sensible IMHO!

Also note that the bass/treble settings for TP, FM1 & 2, AM1 & 2 (by the way this includes LW as well as MW frequencies), AIM traffic info replay, the front slot CD and CD autochanger are all mutally exclusive, so you have lots to play with to set the sound up - this might catch a lot of people out who are saying the standard stereo is a bit naff (I think it's quite good).

Thanks for that, I will try that too, I'm open to any ideas to get rid of the TP!

I think the standard, stock stereo is quite good too, impressed so far as I was expecting it to be pants, but as you say, its not that bad at all.

Press or hold down the TP button turns mine off.

Otherwise you may ahve to go into the settings to turn it off.

As regards TP function, mines great, I'ts simple press on/off and I can set the vol. level at which it interupts.

Just press (breifly) the TP button, TP will go off in the display... it is then off.

Don't hold down TP and wait for beep.. all that does is enter the settings of the radio.

HTH

I posted instructions on this ages ago IIRC.

Basically if TP is showing when you are listening to the radio, just press the A/F button. Then the TP gets turned off.

If on the other hand you press TP whilst a TA is 'interrupting', it will switch back to whatever source, BUT it will leave TP enabled.

If you want to turn ON the TP/TA, just hit that button and TP will show as per the pics.

It does make sense after a while, really ;)

I don't understand why Skoda use this TP selection system. Every other radio I've ever had simply has a TP button for Enable/Disable (or cancel if TP was playing) - dead simple. The Skoda Symphone is so unintuitive I switched my TP off a year ago and never used it since.

True - however it's not like it's more difficult particularly, it's just using a different button to disable, rest is the same ;)
