Lower grille mesh??

Featured Replies

Just got a milotec grille for the front of my VRS but now want to change the botton grille to match the mesh instead of the plastic bars. Only

I'd like to change the lower grille too, and maybe take out the spot surrounds and mesh that area?

Does anyone know if you can get '3D' plastic honeycombe mesh or similar? How flexible could it be?

Am I hijacking a thread?! Hope not.

Andy.

Thanks guys, will take a look at those.

Andy.

i have this mod done to my car, did the bumper have to be cut?

IIRC - asked the same Q about a year ago you can yank out the lower part, and there are some screws under the license plate holder to come out. No cutting needed..

Thats rght... the lower grille does pull out easily enough, only problem then is the vertical slats need to be removed, and some method of attatching the mesh needs to be devised.

Any thoughts?

i want mine back to standard and the parts come on tuesday, so when ive got the bumper off, ill let you know.

You not like the look? i have to admit was looking for something a little more subtle!

it looks ok, just dont like the stick on number plate

Turning this on its head, with an Octy, I meshed up the FMIC area, reg plate to the left (using a halfords product) long ago, however this always looked at odds with the bonnet grille, so over the past week I have meshed this too. Still has the Chrome surrond, but vertical plastic slats have been replaced by mesh - much better. I will get a picture up in the car styling category.

Thanks

How did you replace the slats with the grille? I dont fancy the full front grille like Silver sausages car but want the continuity of the mesh throughout the front of the car.

I can think of 3 ways,

1 cut a groove to slot mesh in to.

2 fold the grille and screw it in to place

3 cut the front lower grille in half and place mesh in between2 halves and then fix back together.

All above involve sawing out the slats and filing down the stubs.

Cheers

Depends how the Fabia grille is put together. The Octy grille is made up of three components which clip together. Having removed the whole item from the bonnet, I carefully took the whole lot apart. There is a base moulding which carries the black slats, a body-colour coded surround and then the chrome finishing suround.

As you indicate the base section containing the slats required the slats to be removed by pad saw and then carefully finishing off. The tabs were then removed from the chrome surround and a piece of mesh was cut to fill the whole, together with a bit of forming to follow the contour of the grille. Then using suitable modern adhesive resins, the mesh was sandwiched between the base (fitted back onto the body-colour coded surround) and the chrome surround then held together until set with some strapping.

Once done, back onto the bonnet with it. However does the Fabia grille not allow access to the bonnet catch release lever so you would need to work this idea into the design?

Think we have our wires crossed, I need the bottom grille under the number plate to be mesh as well as the bonnet grille (which already is mesh) as per below pic.

Any ideas on that?

Cheers

Erm, yes and no. On the Octy, the front bumper grille is located on tabs. When messing mine, I removed the grille, cut the tabs flush with the rest of the surround and then formed the mesh so it would sit flush against the hole. The edges were then roughly bent in as appropriate and again bonded in place using suitable adhesives etc. However whether this approach suits the front of a Fabia, I don't know, but this might help you with where to start from to decide what's possible and what's not.

if anyone wants my milotec front grill with metal mesh and vrs badge, drop me an e-mail. [email protected]. i am going back to standard.
