150bhp or 180bhp?

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I've got a 51 plate vRS (RS on v5) and it has 16 inch alloys. Does this mean it's the 150bhp version or can the 16" alloy version still have the 180bhp engine?

Thanks.

I may be wrong, and someone please step in and tell me differently, but i thought all Mk1 vRS's were 180bhp as standard.

Didn't think tey did a 150bhp model.

Apparently non uk models were or something?

I'm fairly sure it's 180bhp as it's like **** off a shovel but was just wondering.

It's a Uk registered car, not an import.

All Mk 1 RS models are 180 bhp. The UK spec ones have 17" alloys as standard, but in Ireland (and presumably some other European countries) it came with 16" as standard.

The 4x4 1.8T is 150 bhp IIRC.

Indian Mk1 VRS were only 150bhp IIRC , but all european ones should be 180

Hmm, so it'll def be 180bhp then?

Shame it only has 16s... might find some 17s and upgrade when I can.

My car was a Demo car for Skoda, so I'm guessing it'll be a UK version?

The uk estate had 16" wheels as standard.

Some of the earlier UK vRS Mk1 hatches came with 16s as well. The red one that's just been sold in the classifieds here, for example.

It should be 180bhp. Have a nosey at the engine block code (you will find it on a sticky out bit on the front of the cylinder head next to the cam belt). It'll read AUQ and the throttle body located before the inlet manifold won't have a traditional accelerator cable (it's drive by wire). As for running on 16" rims, I was under the impression that very early vRS (i.e. Y and early 51 plate cars) had 16" rims (as did the combi estates) but at some point 17" became standard in UK.

At the time Skoda replaced any 16's on the hatch with 17's under warranty as they all 'should' have had 17's on them.

My Y plate is on 17s, whether these were swapped at some stage though Im unsure.

so mine missed out on a free upgrade :(

Not that i have them anymore lol

Ive got a 150bhp version in India, I was wondering if I could swap with the 180bhp ECU and dont bother abt any mods for now..i mean not having to get a stage 1 remap..

also if its possible, then is it like a direct swap the dealer can do or i'll have to take it to a tuner..?

thanks in advance.

Could you tell us the 3 letter engine code for your car? It will be on the sticker on the cambelt cover... :)

However, I suspect it will have a different turbo to the 180 model.

As for just swapping the ECU - there are better ways to achieve the same thing... :)

brother's 150 Elegance had the same turbo as a 180 vRS

:)

What a mechanic said earlier was that the only diff in both was that the 150bhp model is NonDrivebyWire where as the 180bhp model is DBW...

I was just hoping a quick swap is possible but if not yeah there are better ways..

my brother's 150 is DWB

:)

How can you find out from the AUQ number? :)

AUQ is the engine code, my 150 4x4 is ARX, a 225 TT is BAM etc. your car will have a K03s turbo and a DBW throttle. i would expect the Indian car to be the same with a different map as its only been done as the general fuel quality is not as good i think.

However, I suspect it will have a different turbo to the 180 model.

WRONG!! :haha:

So basically theres no easy way of properly finding out?!

you can use avg-com to read torque and work out the max bhp or go on a RR other than that the only other way i can work out to do it is visit a dealer as it may say on the vehicle details but if its an EU car then it will be 180bhp :)
