Scooby Only Just

Featured Replies

My Leon Tdi (Revo'd) kept with a Scooby (WRX) on a nice bit of fast, wide A-Road between Baldock and Ampthill (A507) on the straight bits when overtaking lorries etc. He had a slight edge on me and I really do mean slight, but as soon as we hit roundabouts he left me for dead until I could catch him again behind the next bus or lorry. Same on standing starts.

I was also all over a 225 TT convertible on the same piece of road on the way back so I'd guess that the lack of 4 x 4 on the Leon and the 300lbft of torque helped a lot, but if either of those two had been chipped, they'd have waved and buggered off!

My 2001, 210bhp S3 was Revo'd to 265bhp and that would have left my VRS and my Leon for dead. A chipped scooby would completely trash a std VRS I reckon...... Still, I have yet to try it for myself!

I wouldn't imagine there would be much in it between a standard WRX and a VRs in a straight line. Throw in a few bends and roundabouts etc and the WRX would benefit from getting the power down to all four wheels.

I followed an STi some time ago and in a straight line there was absolutely no doubt it was quicker but it didn't leave me standing by any means (like I expected it to).

IMO performance is about all Imprezas have going for them. I'd take my VRs on most days thank you :)

it's not that implausible, considering that (standing start aside) a mkII vRS with what...intake, turbo-back exhaust and a remap is as quick as an EVO VII with ~350bhp

:)

Im sorry not trying to make you look stupid or anything but ive driven a 300, 320, 340 and 360 bhp EVO.

There is absolutley no way on this earth that a remapped vRS would get anywhere near an EVO. The EVO could give the vRS a 2 second head start still beat it to 62mph and then leave it for dead to 100mph. Thats in a straight line.

When it comes to corners forget it. The EVO can keep up with supercars. I struggle to keep up with a standard Focus ST (my car is standard too) so i doubt that a remap, new intake, and turbo back exhaust is gonna give such a power increase.

Bear in mind a standard EVO with 276bhp does 0-62 in 5.1 seconds. A remapped vRS will only manage about 6 ish

they also make a lovely noise :)

Not the ones I have heard.

Take a listen to an R32 or a 3.2 TT. They make a lovely noise.

Just thought id like to mention my 200 bhp octy sII was only just beaten by my mates scoob wrx which has been chipped and had a staight through exhaust fitted he wasnt chuffed is this down to the torque of my shiny new engine.

It's down to driving style, reactions and how much you want to try to break your cars - why not repeat the test but swap cars?

If you get miles ahead in the Subaru, then go figure, if not then your mate needs to get his money back on the chipping exercise.
