Veritas Netbackup....

Featured Replies

JUST SAY NO! lol

Its garbage! and has by far been the most painful part of my new job... it has more "features" (read:quirks and crashes) then any other software ive ever used...

Todays fault: the EMM database has corrupted itself.. great, means the dr server needs to be rebuilt :mad:

hehehe...

TSM all the way :thumbup::D

Granted it's a pretty complex bit of software but ours is working well backing up pretty much every platform we have :)

Our i5/OS guys struggle to understand it though... maybe cause they're used to such a noddy OS :D

are you on v6 mp4?

What kinda enviroment you running? servers, media servers infrastructure etc.

Its horrific here, jobs fail for no reason, other jobs hang and tie up a tape drive in the library.. and its not too hot at supporting standalone drives

yeah, we've had netbackup for about 18 months/2 years. it's ****. jobs randomly fail. to make a bad situation worse, our network manager somehow managed to get the data rentention all to ****, so we can't restore from before 12/06 and wont do anything about it cos it's "too hard"...:rolleyes: :eek:

Oppss.. I was replying to auroan about TSM.. sorry Colin :o

I have a feeling we might have veritas netbackup in our notts office backing up some wintel stuff but chances are it's going to be ripped out and replaced with TSM as that is going to be our company wide solution.

Believe me, it's no worse than any other Enterprise solution. I've just finished my Netbackup 6 certification on Unix!

I'd agree with Neo_VR -make sure you've got SP4 on. Support for standalone drives is rubbish -they really only intended it to be used on autochangers.

Symantec support are better than many companies (especially EMC software), believe me!
