Moved out :(:D

I've just fitted the modified rear pads from Skoda and so far all is well! I will have to wait for them to bed in properly before I know for sure if they have worked but it's looking good! Anyone else had them fitted yet?:)

Are they anymore modified recently?

Or just the backing pad on the pad still?

Pass. They were just 'released' the other week. The backing is different to those I removed (it continues onto the ends of the pad). I couldn't see any other obvious differences, not sure if the compound is different.

I've had the modified rear brake bits fitted by Skoda for a long while now, and they work a treat. Got them a while before general release as a warranty job on the car.

No More Mooooing!!!

Although my front brakes squeek like a bus when moderate light braking. The garage told me that they are 'dirty' and need cleaning. Is this the case? Or are they just fobbing me off. They want me to pay for the privelage of them cleaning them. Not an inexpensive job i tells ya. Gonna cost about 4+ hours labour!

I would miss my moo!

I would miss my moo!

Mine only did it after fitting the second set of pads. The originals didn't do it

And it very rarely does it now

Is there noticable surface scale on the discs (just look through the wheels)?

The most likely cause is that the backplates need lubricating. Doing that and cleaning dust off them should cost about 1hr, and maybe

I thought a knock on effect of resolving the rear brake issue using counter weights caused the fronts to squeal? Possibly the answer? Unless the brakes genuinely do need a service.

I understood that the balance weights caused the rear brakes to squeal?

The weights caused the rear brakes to squeal.

I've done about 1000 miles since having the new pads fitted, and I can happily say I have no more mooing or squealing from the brakes!!:woohoo:

To be honest I can't see anything on the brakes. They are worn a bit, but thats after 36,000 miles. It started happening at around 20,000+. Skoda swear that it wasn't due to them altering the back brakes.

The back plates are the peice of metal that sits next to the back of the brake pads right?

Might have a go at doing this myself. Save a bit of cash. What should I dust them off with?

I'd agree. There is no obvious reason why alterations to the back brakes should cause front end brake squeal. With the mileage you quote, could the start of the squeal be coincident with a change in the front pads? If so, it's possible that it's down to a change in friction material, and the only cure would be to fit a different make of pads.

What I meant was the piece of metal that carries the friciton material.

I've never had to do anything more than dust calipers off with an old paintbrush (1 or 2 inch type size). If you want to buy brake cleaner, I think it's available from accessory shops and Halfords.
