Any Origin B2 owners out there?

Featured Replies

I just got an email from them offering an upgrade to their new Pogo system at a discount. I'd quite like to upgrade to their 'drive' unit so I have the speed camera fuctionality and a satnav all in one. I can then sell my hardly used TomTom One (new version) to cut down on the amount of devices on my dash.

I know you can get speed camera d/b's for TomTom but I truely believe Origin has saved me a lot of money and probably my licence over the last 3 years. And not just for the speed reason, but also for the 'blackspot' warnings etc, I believe their db is very good.

I have found the B2 unit a little troublesome though, everytime I go over a bump it resets due to the not very snug fit on the cradle (and probably my 'upgraded' suspension) and I had to bodge the cradle onto a vent mount as the sticky pad mounting method was never very good for me. A new modern unit will do away with these little niggles.

I also signed up for the 3 year update deal earlier this year and that is also transferable. I presume you have to give up your B2 unit to them which is the only downside, but I guessed that would happen if they came up with such a deal (I did wonder if this was coming).

Anyone else thinking of upgrading their B2?

Well it seems like i'm the only Origin B2 owner left , everyone probably has Snoopers n Roadangels I guess.

Anyways, i've decided to get the Pogo Alert instead of the Pogo Drive as the Alert is such a nice small device it will be easier to place on the dash and I don't need to use a sat nav that often so i'll keep the TomTom One for the occasions I do require one.

Just wait a while, I'm sure some will be along at some point :)

I know people who still use them - can't remember who on here though! Nice little units...

Still using the B2 ....found out a little dab of blue tac holds the unit in the cradle  so I am hoping they carry on with the updates for a while as I can't afford to upgrade just yet

Ah thats a good idea, good old blue tac,

AFAIK they are continuing with the updates for the B2 as it's the same database anyway.

i've never had much luck with my B2, the power keeps going off and it loses it's signal and I have to keep fiddling with the cradle leads. I think I got a Friday afternoon job. At the same time i'm not sure I would have got through the last 3 years without it. :)

Mine still goes off for no reason every now and then, and the signal takes ages to sort itself out, I would love to try one of the new all in one units but it would have to be as good on the satnav as a tomtom befors I would buy it.

And yes it has saved me a few points as well, the one thing I always thought it could do with is a constant readout of the speed limit on the road you are on.

I was going to get the all-in-one but decided I like the TomTom interface too much to risk getting something inferior. I'll just replace my B2 with the Pogo Alert to get rid of the niggles I have with the B2 unit.

Also I was not sure about having the large screen on all the time as I find the satnav can get a bit annoying on long night time drives. I quite like a dark cabin and the new Pogo Alert (non satnav version B2 replacement) is tiny so i'm hoping it will be easier to place somwhere not in my face on those long drives and rely mostly on the audio to alert me to something.

BTW If you use the upgrade offer they ask for your B2 unit before they send the new one which is a bit much as it will leave you without the B2 for a few days.

I know what you mean about knowing which speed is legal for the road you are using. It's getting very confused on my route out West from London as they are changing a lot of the roads from 60 down to 50 and most of the time i'm not sure which one i'm in. Gloucester police authrority have a big drive on at the moment to reduce their death toll on the roads and there are signs and camera vans everywhere. I spotted 3 vans on my last trip and one of them was an unmarked grey transit van but you could see the camera's in the back windows. I understand they don't want people driving like nuts but it's the cases where you are doing 7 mph over and you get a ticket that annoy me (like my dad, I keep telling him to get a detector, he has 6 points now, I have none and he is 82 years old in his 1.4 Fabia and just unlucky ).

Hi fellas,

Pogo/Origin here. We came across this discussion and thought we would try and answer some of the points raised.

There are tens of thousands of Origin b2s in active use and rest-assured Origin/Pogo will always supply data updates to any b2 owner who maintains a subscription. We would never leave you without service!

Also, the data supplied to the Origin b2 is the same Origin 360 database as used in the Pogo Range (Origin - Pogodrive & Pogoalert GPS Satnav) and bias aside, is widely recognised as the best on the market.

Origin spent a long time fine tuning to launch the Pogo range and we’re hoping that users will agree with us that the Pogo Alert is the definitive speed trap locator.

If you’re thinking of upgrading to a Pogo Alert it’s best to do it now as the offer finishes at the end of August 2007. Origin b2 users can log in and do so here:

Hope that helps,

Pogo (the new name for Origin)

Well I got my Pogo Drive unit and installed it using the windscreen mount, I was not keen on mounting it this way at first but i've tucked it into the right corner and it's fine as it's so tiny. I'll try and take a couple of pics the w/e. :)

There is a dash mounting option but you have to get a windscreen mounting for the laser detector where as if you use the windscreen mount for the whole unit the ld clips to the unit there.

I prefer it to the B2, it's a lot more compact and stable on it's mount with a very clear display.
