caravan towing with felicia 1.9 diesel

Featured Replies

I have a felicia 1.9 diesel esate(2000 Wreg)& would like to get a caravan.I have a couple of questions regarding this: 1) Has any ever towed a caravan with a felicia diesel? 2)Why is the towing weight limit lower for the 1.9 diesel than the 1.6,is it simply because the 1.6 has higher bhp?.I know the 1.9 performance is not that brisk, but it does seem to have a reasonable amount of torque.I have had heavy loads in the car & it does not seem to effect performance, the 1.9 seems to be a good plodder!!!.

I have towed with a 1.6 though not with a 1.9 diesel. The 1.6 does ok, its hills that you may struggle with. Torque wise mine seems quite good, and I have no problem pulling off, and flats.

I manage to quite easily tow a friend in her big heavy citroen zantia turbo diesel yesterday in my little 1.3.

Even towed up a bit of a hill in 3rd!! Was very impressed at how well it pulled, but not sure how it would have coped for a long period of time... and i know my friend wouldn't of coped any longer riding in her car without the hydraulic suspension... VERY bumpy!!! lol

But.. if my car can manage a big heavy car like that.... im sure a 1.9d would manage a caravan... depending on size any way...

I wouldn't worry too much about the power, yes you need to be able to pull the thing up a hill but I'm sure a 1.9D could do that. My concern would be the weight of the car being too low, it's an aspect which is regularly overlooked but VERY important in terms of making the outfit safe. It's worth having a look at the link below which should give you the information you need to decide weather your car is suitable as a tow car or not, and what sort of size it could safely tow.

Outfit matching

Mine is 650KG which is nice and light, and is a good match for the car. You probably could go a bit heavier than this, depending on what size caravan you have.

The other important point to remember is when loading, to put the heavier items over the caravan axle, lighter items at the front / back, and anything else weight wise, in between.

Thanks glad to hear that others have towed with a felicia.Mine had tow bar fitted when i bought it,but dont know what its towed.Used to go caravaning in the past,so i know that safe limit is 85% of the weight of the tow car, this will limit me to a smaller or older caravan. There are plenty of caravans for sale on ebay so I should be able to find a match for my felicia.Just wanted to know that i was not alone in using a felicia as a tow car..THANKS FOR YOUR HELP

my parents had a green felicia 1.9D estate. with that we went on quite a few holidays, towing behind us a 6 berth caravan and gear for 2 adults and 3 teenage sons for a long weekends camping.

id say it would be alright lol.
