Autonostics cable problems

Featured Replies

Just bought a USB-OBD2 interface off E-bay, and have downloaded the shareware version of VAG-Com and also ScanTool. Problem is, although the interface is set up OK on COM2, neither program sees the interface.

Daft question - is the interface powered from the OBD port, so has it to be plugged in to the car before it's recognised? :(:(:(

Could it be because it should be set on USB and not COM2?

And to answer the second question : No it does not have to be plugged in the car.

I have set up a USB-Serial port which is COM2.

If you mean that your laptop does not have a USB port and you are thus using a Serial - USB converter setup on Com2, then check para.1.5 of the following link:

Ross-Tech: VAG-COM: FAQ Page 1

If it says: port ok

interface not found .yes it does need to be plugged in.

I also use one of these cables, they work very well.

Yep, working now with VAG-COM :thumbup: Needed plugged into the OBD port.

Still not working with ScanTool - it doesn't see the interface. :(:(

Next time you come to tesco's gimme a shout ;)

I've never tried scan tool because vag-com is by far the best.

Have fun
