ICE Advice - USB Bluetooth Head Unit - Furby VRS

Featured Replies

Hi all

apologies if this has been answered before

my music is mostly in digital format.... my Symphony head unit is single CD only... so what to do ....been following the discussion on maxidot etc for the Octys... however i am thinking a slightly simpler solution where the head unit does it all is more what i need and would make me splash the readies.

a picture tells a thousand... so see the attached.... this is what I think i want......

Can anyone suggest a suitable head unit to do the job?:confused::confused:

Found this

Amazon.co.uk: VR500CSBT, The 3 in 1 Bluetooth Car Radio with USB & SD slot: Electronics & Photo

but no documentation that i can find to say if it talks to the phone in the way that makes sense (can stream mp3 from phone and turns vol down on stereo when phone call comes in).

thanks in advance for any answers...

by the way what is the bluetooth standard that allows streaming and remote control called .. is is AD2P? about to change my phone and it would be typical if i bought the wrong one!

cheers

You are going to struggle to stream music over bluetooth as the bandwidth just isnt there. My CK-7W carkit does this from my N-95 but the sound quality is VERY poor and Mono only. Bluetooth is only any use for taking and making phone calls, for music use the USB connection only.

thanks mannyo

guess we have to wait for phones to have WIFI / higher speed.... its coming

was reluctant to commit to one phone kit/interface if bluetooth would do job

i note that the head unit i linked to in previous post has mini SD slot so i guess that is the way to move data from phone to head unit if no hard wire/cradle

bren

Yes, thats one way to get the data across, especially if the phone and hu have a common memory card.

thanks for the link davidcollins,

but i was trying to find a solution that avoided all the extra wires, bits and pieces with all the bits where they should be (in the head unit) and my phone still sitting under the hand brake on its charger as usual.....

i looked up A2DP and Bluetooth 1.2 and 2.0 on wikipedia - they are supposed to be good enough to support streaming of audio ...... i wonder if your N95 is connected in mono/voice mode mannyo (it has bluetooth 2.0)

Bren, I just bought a JVC BT-1 unit with bluetooth built in. Also has USB In etc. It's very versatile as it can also be upgraded in a variety of ways. It can support Ipod's directly, DAB Radio, Satellite Radio (not available in UK yet), CD Multichanger, Ext in, & more! Only thing it doesn't have is a SD card reader, however u could plug in an external card reader and use a card that way.

It's great for phone streaming, takes songs right from the phone's BT connection. Pauses music during calls and resumes after. Also it comes with a mic to put into your car, so you can have voice dialling and obviously all phone convo's go through the car speakers. Also, if your phone supports is, all of your text messages will appear on your HU's screen. I LOVE it. Check it out here...hope that helped :
