Need to find replacment aerial

Featured Replies

My Octavia VRS aerial has gone all funny, the rubber on the screw in bit has deterioted and looks nasty.

I bought a bog standard replacement from halfords and tried fitting it after removing the anti theft original one, but it wont screw in, seems the thread isnt long enough, does nayone have any idea on where to get a replacement that fits, i just need the screw in part?

I wonder if you've damaged the base as well?

I think you may have done looking at the bottom of the whip, looks like it's been chewed by the next door neighbours dog  Plus i would say that the reason the thread won't fit in the OEM base is that it does not work that way!

I may have a solution for you if you want to PM :D

Mine looks like that i got those cheap alloy stubby things for now but do you think i can get the old one off.

I pulled so hard it felt like i was gonna take the roof off but no joy.

It appears that he has pulled the whip from the base, as in the photo there are two whips, one with a thread and one without. The one without the thread is the OEM and locates into a socket within the base. If you intend on trying to replace the OEM whip with the aftermarket threaded type it won't work, that is into the OEM base.

I'm not sure what you mean by the alloy type as i am sure the base has to be replaced for this version if the anti-theft type is fitted as OEM, as is the case with this guy.

Ok, i got it. Looks like you have the removable type of whip to base, that is you can unscrew and replace the whip...i think the type our friend is talking about is the anti-theft type as shown below.....this you cannot remove and replace with the type you have...;)

no nothing is broken, to remove i just unscrewed it as far as it would, then pushed it in and then pulled it hard, it took a few goes but i can install and remove it no problem.

The halfords aerial i bought seems to have the right size screw thread its jsut too short to grab into the holder, so i need to find one that does, without removing the base of the aerial off the car.

I'll try that tomorrow as the one i have has two different screws with it a short and long one

So i should be ok if i can get the standard aerial off

if your phone has macro mode set it to that, gives a much better closeup, the icon looks like a little flower (on my n73 anyway)

However from your photo it looks like the thread is still too short to fit in the base though.

Got a better photo now thanks http://i192.photobucket.com/albums/z230/fatty5000_album/20072007035.jpg

I think you're right though about the fitting

It's pretty easy to fit a new base and as you are only looking to get the mast fitted and no channeling of cables i would say 15-20 minutes work, tops.

If you want instructions on how to replace the whole thing send me a pm.

Just tried getting mine out now a wadda ya know i pushed it in than pulled and out it came. Got the new one on now but don't think i like may look for an oem one or a black stubby type
