Bridgestones - which of the two?

Featured Replies

I'm currently swinging back and forth between the choice of two Bridgestone tyres as they seem to complement AWD cars best - the S03 or the RE720 (soon to be replaced by the E300).

The S03s are the no-compromise max performance tyres, the RE720 is a high-performance tyre which will be good in the dry but lacking a bit to the S03, and is (supposed to be) unbeatable in the wet - of which there is quite a lot in Holland!

There is no price difference between them.

I'm currently leaning towards the RE720, as they will fit my real-life requirements more closely. But the thought of maximum grip on a fine summer day...

Oh, I will be changing to winter tyres for the first time, in November, so no need to consider their respective winter performances. :D

I could be wrong here, but didn't the Scoobynetters reach the conclusion that the SO2 was a better tyre than the SO3 so that's why they all went off onto PZeros and Eagle F1's for the Impreza ?

Like you say, tyres are all about fitting most of your needs, most of the time. I'd personally go for a tyre that is good in the wet and live with less dry grip

:thumbdwn: so3`s are supposedly the middle man when it comes to Bridgestone tyres.......if you can find them i would go for the so2`s but they are rare...........i have heard good reports on the E300, (was going to be called S04) and is supposed to compare well to the S02, might be worth the wait..........

personally i cannot fault Goodyear F1`s and if money is not a problem go for Michelin pilots

 Phil

Had both SO2's and SO3's on the Scooby, and to be honest I preferred the SO3's as they had slightly better grip in wet and dry, and were much quieter on the road, IMHO :D The Eagle F1's seem to be the current tyre of choice, but they do have less stiff sidewalls so are apparently a bit more squirmy than the Bridgestones under load, although I've not had any personal experience of this though :)

i thought the s02's were discotinued and actually replaced by the s03.

Main reason was wear, the s03 has a much higher tread wear rating than the s02.

Yes, can't find the S02 anywhere, and wear on the S03s is supposed to be excellent - with another fresh layer of rubber appearing after the first few millimetres have worn off. According to my tyre man I will easily earn back the extra cash for the Bridgestones by declining on the F1s, which wear much faster.
